Adversary Cycle fanboy wish list **spoilers** - nijimeijer - 07-02-2004 I just finished rereading All the Rage, and the bit where Oz says to Jack "You can't possibly imagine taking on a rakoshi on your own," or something to that effect, and Jack replies "Wouldn't be the first time," had me in fits. It made me want to see Glaeken take on a rakosh with his sword. I don't know why, but that imagery just popped into my head. For some reason, I just thought "Man, I wish Scar-Lip had guarded the tunnel leading to Rasalom at the end of Nightworld." To my mind, Jack was just about the only regular human (by regular, I mean actually human) who could take one on--he was special. Now Glaeken, with the weapon . . . that'd be an awesome fight. And readers would be giddy when Glaeken noted the scarred lip of the rakoshi he was facing. Just one of my fanboy wishes; a scene I'd love to see, much in the vein of, say, seeing an X-Men/Spiderman crossover film (since both series of films have been high quality). It's been a while since I read All the Rage, but didn't the last Rakoshi disappear in the the Barrens? It wouldn't surprise me at all, if he showed up again. Everytime I ask questions about the books, the response is usually something along the lines of "all in good time!" Adversary Cycle fanboy wish list **spoilers** - Freakeden - 07-05-2004 I've got a ton of Adversary/RMJ wishes... and I'm spreading them to all the friends I'm introducing to Jack et all. Although don't take that to mean that I'm comparing FPWs works to an STD that I'm spreading indiscriminantly... :p As far as the scar lip, I came away with a feeling that perhaps that there was more to that last rakosh than just the monster it is descended from. The fact that it showed a sense of fair play in that it didn't kill Jack when it had the chance, perhaps out of a feeling of obligation to Jack for 'saving' it makes me think that it wouldn't be readily accepted by Rasolam. Of course, I also have this strange feeling that it won't be Gleaken with the sword at the end of Nightworld this time around.... but maybe that's just a fanboi's hope. Adversary Cycle fanboy wish list **spoilers** - XiaoYu - 07-05-2004 I just finished Nightworld... Yeah, I had to keep reminding myself that at the time Nightworld was written, Jack was just another character, perhaps as disposable as poor Bulmer. But there was always this hope that Jack would be the one to wield that sword... And I liked the whole idea that the cross comes from the shape of the hilt of a sword. Maybe I just live under a rock when it comes to cross myths, but I haven't heard that one before and I thought it was creative Adversary Cycle fanboy wish list **spoilers** - Bluesman Mike Lindner - 07-05-2004 nijimeijer Wrote:I just finished rereading All the Rage, and the bit where Oz says to Jack "You can't possibly imagine taking on a rakoshi on your own," or something to that effect, and Jack replies "Wouldn't be the first time," had me in fits. That's a good point, Nij--what did Scar-Lip do when Nightworld came down? Did he hasten to Central Park to aid his grim master? Very good point! Well, despite Jack mentioning that he thought the Otherness would "disown" Scar-Lip for his behavior, I doubt S-L pulled a Spike (from Buffy). At best, he would simply have registered as a "non-entity" to the hole creatures from Nightworld--they don't mess with him, he doesn't mess with them. S-L just wanting to vanish into the Barrens and live its life... but then the Otherness would hardly just let one of its pawns just leave the chessboard now would it. For the most part the last rakosh could be a wildcard in the whole cycle, or at least the final chapter Nightworld. It could also be a completely non-entity. I suppose that we'll just have to wait and see how FPW handles the options that this most unusual character represents. Don't bet on it being Jack. There's no way in the world that he wants to outlive Gia and Vicks. Would you want to outlive the only people you love? That's the curse of immortality (just ask Steve Dalt, right Paul?). Adversary Cycle fanboy wish list **spoilers** - Freakeden - 07-07-2004 Biggles Wrote:Don't bet on it being Jack. That's the curse of immortality (just ask Steve Dalt, right Paul?). that's just it. Would he even have a choice in the matter. In the original Nightworld, Gleaken felt positive that either Jack or the Priest (forgot his name) would have been chosen to take up the sword and fight Rasolam. Gleaken sure as hell didn't want to do it, he'd done his time, he'd paid his dues. After all, who better to be immortal than someone who has spent most of their life removing themselves from Officialdom? It's almost like every step in Jack's life has been leading up to him taking up the sword in Nightworld. Another possibility occurs to me--maybe Jack did go back to the Barrens to kill it. |
