Midnight Special - Scott Miller - 10-24-2006 I'm pretty intrigued by this offer; channel surfing last night landed me on an infomercial concerning this old TV show. I must admit I'm a little surprised I never watched and don't remember anything about it because they had some awesome performers on it. I think enough people might be interested in it so I'm posting a link...http://www.midnightspecial.com/ Midnight Special - luthie2 - 10-24-2006 Scott Miller Wrote:I'm pretty intrigued by this offer; channel surfing last night landed me on an infomercial concerning this old TV show. I always used to beg my parents to let me stay up and see it, but it was on WAAAAAY past my bedtime. A lot of times I would wake up in the night and sneak down to watch it anyway. I was always really into music, so I thought that this show was the greatest. (And the fact that it was on after my bedtime was a great draw as well!) This thread brings back some good memories. Thanks, Scott. -Luthie Midnight Special - Maggers - 10-24-2006 I should remember it. I want to remember it. I just can't dredge it up. That happens alot with events in the '70's. That whole decade is a blur. I remember the '50's (a bit), the '60's, the 80's and all the following decades. But the 70's, well, I was a party girl, what can I say. I had a great time. God knows I enjoyed the music and the clubs, but don't quiz me on the specifics. Midnight Special - webby - 10-24-2006 I don't remember that show either. I do remember "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" which came on in the wee hours of the morning during the years when I was babysitting for a living. Come to think of it, this show may have helped form the person I became. It exposed me to bands like Queen, E.L.O., Alice Cooper, The Bee Gees (Before Disco), Fleetwood Mac, The Who, AC/DC, Elton John and on and on and on.... Every Friday night. I have to say, my parents were very cool to let me stay up so late to see that. RIK Midnight Special - Keith the Elder - 10-25-2006 Richard Kendrick Wrote:Awesome! I never missed an episode. Not to mention the very special episode, David Bowie's "The 1980 Floor Show" I might still have that one on a audio cassette somewhere. Midnight Special - Kenji - 10-25-2006 Sounds good! But I've never heard about this show before. Is it like a Ed Sullivan Show? I saw Ed Sullivan Show on satellite channel. Midnight Special - Richard Kendrick - 10-25-2006 Kenji Wrote:Sounds good! But I've never heard about this show before. Is it like a Ed Sullivan Show? I saw Ed Sullivan Show on satellite channel. It was just a great Rock show. They had anybody and everybody on there. They would have interviews and they would have multiple performances by an artist placed throughout the show -- not back to back. A good bit of it was lip sync but that didn't matter much. It was the first show that I remember showing prerecorded "videos" too. Things like "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, "74 Jailbreak" by AC/DC and "Rockaria" by E.L.O. Occasionally, a celebrity artist or group would host the show. I may just have to buy those DVDs. RIK Midnight Special - Mick C. - 10-26-2006 Yikes, I remember watching that show! I was a teenage vampire (maybe that should be in initial caps, like a movie title: I Was a Teenage Vampire) through the 1970s, staying up all night to watch Tom Snyder's Tomorrow Show at midnight and The Midnight Special on Friday nights (or was it Saturday nights?), then the late night movies. Don Kirshner (which I think was on Saturdays) tended to have bands like ELO and the Eagles, but I remember watching The Clash and The Pretenders. Tom Snyder had some surprisingly avante garde bands on after midnight on weekdays. I posted a review awhile back on here about a DVD set of the best punk and new wave performances from Tom's show, with The Ramones, Elvis Costello (his first NBC performance after being banned from Saturday Night Live), Iggy Pop, and the Plasmatics. As well as a really strange interview with Patti Smith where she was bizarrely flirty with Tom, and where John Lydon (formerly Johnny Rotten) just abused Tom for an hour. Check it out if you like that kind of music, I enjoyed the set. |
