I watched Bad Santa last night (starring Billy Bob Thornton) and thought it was awful. It wasn't funny at all, had much more vulgarity than necessary, and really had no point. The previews made it look mildly amusing, but the movies itself was so bad I found myself wishing I had the time back so I could have cleaned my bathroom. :mad:

I tend to have a dark sense of humor but for the most part I'd have to agree with Stacy. It had its moments but the lines were delivered too seriously to be funny, almost as if it were not meant to be a comedy. Maybe I was expecting too much?? :confused:

I saw this one in the theater and came out feeling completely the same way. The only memorable part of the movie was the scene where they were trying to teach the kid how to defend himself. The movie itself is a complete waste of time and money.
On the other hand, I'm still bugging the people at Suncoast to come up with a release date for Elf.

I'm glad to hear some people agree with me. After I posted that I was concerned that I may have been too harsh, but that was how I felt about it. I didn't see the elf but thought it looked hilarious!

ELF was hilarious!
I actually kinda liked Bad Santa. I consider it a 'dark comedy,' which actually had some funny parts (though I wasn't impressed enough to remember what they were), unlike other supposed 'dark comedies' which I didn't find funny at all like To Die For with Nicole Kidman. Can't think of any others.

I purchased "Badder Santa" (the unrated version) just to get a few more minutes of the sick not dark humor (dark would be Dr. Strangelove-ish--sick would be Andy Warhol or John Waters-ish) that makes this film funny. And it's not so much the physical humor (as in the kid learning to defend himself) that makes this film work; it's the subtle counterpoint between the festive holiday and the depraved/criminal antics of Santa and his "elf." Speaking of the other movie, "Elf": If you found this movie funny, it's no wonder you found no humor in Bad Santa. Watching Elf was like drinking a gallon of syrup. People were walking out of the theater half-way through the flick. I stayed because I love popcorn and had a refill coming. There. Rant over. And if you're wondering further what I mean by sick humor, let me refer you to back issues of National Lampoon Magazine. Those who liked Elf best stick to Crack Magazine, or better yet, Family Circus. For real now. Rant over.

I didn't mean to single you out, old bean. I meant to address the lot who liked Elf over Bad Santa with a tongue-in-cheek rant, but it's hard to address everyone since you can only select one message to answer. I mean, a movie with Bob Newhart and James Caan should have been better. But some ex-Saturday Night Live player decided that the camera should be focused on him for the whole movie and therein lie the lack of humor for me. I hate to see wasted potential and Elf coulda been a contender. Excuse my misdirected rant.
