BBC Catherine Tate Show Question (help me understand Brits) - Tony H - 07-14-2006

This post goes out to any Brits on the board regarding my new favorite show airing on BBC America called "The Catherine Tate Show".

I love British humor, but in Catherines show ther is a skit that I just don't get.

If you have seen the show it is a recurring skit where there is a couple who are so eccentric. They seem to find humor in everything each other does.

I can't explain the skits because they confuse me and I don't know why they're supposed to be funny.

In one skit, the wife tells her husband "Oh my God, you're not going to belive what I just did!"

The husband is like... "No...what did you do?"
I tried ringing sara to see if she wanted Chineese food and I said, Hey Sara...AND IT WASN'T SARA!"

"You lie! It wasn't Sara!?"

"No...It was Beth!!!"

"NO! What was Beth doing at Sara's..."

It goes on and on and the audience is cracking up and I am left scratching my head trying to figure out what I'm missing. If you know the show and can explain this, I'd gratly appreciate it.
