Two & a Half Gore Flicks--No Spoilers! - saynomore - 01-11-2006 Just saw Hostel and Bloodrayne today, and Wolf Creek the other day. Hostel: After being disappointed by Cabin Fever, I should have known better, but the Quentin Tarantino name was attached so I took a chance. Talk about coincidences. Ay caramba! Kill Bill Volume I had more gore BTW. But Eli Roth is a name to keep an eye on. Bloodrayne: What the hell are Michael Madsen, Billy Zane, and Ben Kingsley doing in this b-level movie? Some movies, like The Boogeyman, play out like video games, whereas movies based on video games are never as good as the games themselves. Some nice gore here and there though; although it doesn't add anything to the plot. Wolf Creek: Paul Hogan has gone feral, but you have to wait for the last 30 minutes to see it. Meanwhile, enjoy the nice hour-long travelogue on the Outback till you see the slight splash of gore. Okay, I'm a gore geek. Have been since "Blood Feast," my first gore flick. "Night of the Living Dead" took gore to the next level, followed by "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Hills Have Eyes," but gore flicks have really become tame recently; instead we now get the loud music "boo, gotchas." Hostel should have been that next level. Sigh! Shame on you, QT. AC |
