Mr. and Mrs. Smith - Scott Miller - 12-08-2005

I liked it. There was plenty of action, humor, and I thought the chemistry between Pitt and Jolie was good, but there was a meanness that went against the grain of the rest of the movie in several scenes that prevented it from being a truly excellent action/comedy.

Both Pitt and Jolie are so attractive that I think their acting, which I think is usually solid, is often overlooked.

Only problem I have with the movie is set up in the writing.

SPOILER:

Remember when they are in coulseling and the doc asks:
Marriage Counselor: One a scale of one to ten, how would you rate the happiness of your marriage?
Jane Smith: 8.
John Smith: Wait. Could you clarify? Is 10 the highest? 10 being perfectly happy and 1 being totally miserable or...
Marriage Counselor: Just respond instinctively.
John Smith: Ok. Ready?
Jane Smith, John Smith: 8.

Then later in the movie you see BP telling AJ how to be instinctive in operating. That goes against the grain for me because the counseling scene showered her being the instinctive one and him as the thoughtful, analytical one and then they just switched it. Crap like that drives me nuts in movies and books. Almost as bad as when they mess up weapons handling scenes.....Wink

I saw it in last week, and I enjoyed it. It reminded me of "War of Roses". Big Grin
A lot of action sequences, humorous conversations, and.....Angelina Jolie!
I didn't care much about Brad Pitt. I'm Angelina Jolie fan.

Well I thought the whole movie was silly and that is what bothered me about a couple of the fight scenes that got pretty grim, they just didn't fit with the tone of the movie overall.

I thought this movie was okay. It wasn't anything to write home to mom about.

Minor spoiler.

One of my problems was also that when they were fighting each other it was so brutal and then all of a sudden they're making out and everything is great  . The fight scenes didn't look forced, it looked like they couldn't wait to kill each other. But then, they did it and forgot they wanted to kill each other.
