Okay, I've heard something about a few members putting together a compendium (not sure who or how far) and I realize there is a COMPENDIUM Collection Point but, after having finished reading Infernal and forgetting certain details and characters from previous episodes (I need to work on my memory skills), I was wondering what other members think of putting together a Repairman Jack wiki.

What is a wiki? Well, similar to the best known wiki: Wikipedia.org and taken from their Overview FAQ, a wiki is "a website which any visitor can edit, with the changes showing up immediately. Ward Cunningham invented the concept and software."

If we set this up similar to Wikipedia, we could then have an online encyclopedia of RJ information as well as, presumably, any other F. Paul works.

If it's decided that this is a good idea, the next issues would revolve around logistics, I would imagine. Things like: who will host the RJ Wiki site?

Anyways, I'm interested in your thoughts on this. So, let 'er rip.

Well, movement on the RJ Compendium is almost non-existant. I offered to take it over after flyboy disappeared, but I bit off more than I could chew. I have had zero time for a large project like that.

I think your idea has merit, and it would be a lot less hassle to fine tune things with... say... 20 editors? :p

At the very least it would be a one-stop shop for gathering all the information we can about the Man's body of work.

****Infernal minor spoiler****

I found one! I found one! It does not happen often that I come across an item that some other, more astute reader than I mentions first. Towards the beginning of Infernal when RJ is retrieving the Duke Snyder baseball, Polio is blaring from another apartment which allows Scotty to sneak up on Jack. If I'm not mistaken, Polio was the band The Nail, the slug who stole the Christmas presents in Legacies, used to play bass for.

Having just finished reading Infernal, I don't think this connection was in this book. I belived it must've been in an earlier one. Of course, if I had an RJ wiki at my disposal, I could easily give you the correct one. And if I'm wrong and The Nail is mentioned in Infernal, please point me to the page number!

When Jack is attempting to retrieve the ball for his customer, a neighbor is blaring Polio, which allows the homeowner to sneak up on Jack without being heard. The connection is..... The Nail USED to play with Polio before he became a loser and was soundly beaten by Jack. (FYI), The group Polio was also in "The Tomb". Short referance, but it's there. (Unless FPW took it out in the revised edition.) I believe they have another apperance also (THA, maybe). So "the Nail" is not mentioned, just the group. That's the link.

Well I can't fault you for questioning my memory, normally I just ell everyone to take a number, but in this case I am correct. You can find it on page 56 in Infernal, the Forge edition. And I checked in Legacies, the page that mentions Polio and Joey DiCiglia is 50, also a Forge edition.

Thanks. My apologies. I see it right there in black-and-white!

Another one, as Tom and Jack drive through their old neighborhood after the funeral, a wave of nostalgia washes over Jack as they pass Mr. Canelli's yard, the site of Jack's first ever fix-it as reported in The Tomb(I think).

Just found that Repairman Jack is already on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repairman_Jack), along with "Otherness", F. Paul Wilson, and a few more related topics.

It probably wouldn't be too hard to make our own wiki, and there are tons of hosting options, but the main issue would be the cost. So as long there are already wikipedia entries, there's no reason we couldn't just edit those - and that would be free. Cool The current Wikipedia topics look like they could use a bit more input.

Okay, the RJ Wiki is expanding! As is the FPW Wiki. Although Wikipedia articles have existed in the past for these two subjects, I recently have been adding a number of new articles concerning The Repairman Jack Series and The Adversary Cycle, as a start.

There is still lots of work to be done. If you feel like contributing, you're quite welcome to. I'd suggest starting with the Wikipedia Introduction.

And I'll be looking into setting up a WikiProject/talk group there for all to discuss the more "contentious" issues. For example, this morning another contributor went and tagged all the RJ/AC novels as being in the category 'Horror novels'. My view is that these books, and many others from F. Paul, aren't so easily pigeon-holed. There are horror aspects, there are thriller aspects, there are fantasy aspects (as far as the supernatural), etc. They don't fit into any one genre, at least not in the conventional sense. I suppose we could tag them as being in all of these categories. Thoughts? Comments?
