TV that I've stumbled into watching weekly - Maggers - 10-21-2005 I tend not to get stuck on TV series that you've got to watch every week. It seems like way too big a commitment. Other than HBO on Sunday nights; HBO is just plain different. As far as network TV goes, I've discovered "Commander in Chief," "Invasion," and "Surface" and I've stuck with them. I really like the former; Geena Davis is great and Donald Sutherland is greater. "Surface" is mildly interesting but I keep coming back. "Invasion" ... well, I am hoping it will grab me more, but I also still keep coming back. Sadly, I didn't follow "Lost" from the beginning last year, and now I'm truly lost if I try to watch it. I've also got to throw in "3 and a Half Men," for whatever reason I enjoy that silly show. However, the channel that is my hands down favorite is HGTV. LOVE IT! Gives me lots of ideas about fixing up and redecorating my apartment and I am addicted. Too bad I don't have a garage where I could learn carpentry. Man, I'd love that! Gah, you would get along great with my wife. She loves all those home improvement/decorating shows on HGTV, TLC and whatever other channels there are. I readily admit though she has become a pretty handy little crafts(wo)man from all the stuff she has learned or wanted to try from these shows though. And it is a very cool thing when I don't have to go through the justification thing when I want a new power tool as she usually wants it just as much as I do. I would so love to team up with a bunch of friends like your wife where we could go shopping for power tools and take carpentry classes and learn how to DO things, to MAKE thinks, to PUT THINGS TOGETHER. I crave that. TV that I've stumbled into watching weekly - maxplay - 10-21-2005 I know what you mean about Invasion--I have three episodes on DVR I haven't watched yet. Until my wife says to stop recording it... One new one that I really look forward to every week is My Name is Earl. TV that I've stumbled into watching weekly - Scott Hajek - 10-21-2005 My wife, too, is an HGTV junkie. We Tivo "House Hunters," "Design on a Dime," "Designed to Sell," and sometimes "Divine Design." Sometimes I watch House Hunters with her and we bet on which house the people end up with. As far as other "new" shows... I don't really watch any of them. I do watch The Apprentice: Martha Stewart which is more a spin-off than a new show. He's smart, cute and handy...be still my heart! scott hajek Wrote:As far as other "new" shows... I don't really watch any of them. It's much more approachable somehow. Perhaps the tasks she gives are more "do-able" in my mind. But I really like it. I tend not to watch any TV outside of sports and cartoons, but I have caught several episodes of Queer Eye, What Not To Wear,...etc. that my wife watches. Of these types of shows, I would have to say that Extreme Home Makeover is my favorite. I love the idea that in one weeks time, a community can come together and participate in a cause that will have lasting benefits for those they are helping without it costing them anything more than time and elbow grease. I like Martha better than Donald because she seems more logical in her dismissals of the candidates. Like the time she overruled the PM's choice of two people and fired who should've been brought in. She will get the person she wants for sure. Donald's tasks seem way too tied in with product placement. C'mon, a DQ mascot? A prototype float for Zathura? What the hell do those have to do with real estate development? At least selling flowers and making salad dressing makes sense for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. They have a variety of shows that are great for people who want to be inspired to clean, rennovate inside or out, build furniture, redo your yard, change a room, make over your kitchen...you name it, if it's inside or outside your house, they've got a show for it. I particularly love "Design on a Dime," where the decorating team comes in witha budget of $1000 and they will redo one room based on what the homeowner wants. It gives me great ideas. I crave that. My favorite thing now is when stuff happens likes this weekend with my wife. She comes home from doing some crafting stuff and shopping with one of her aunts and tells me, "hey I got you something, its out in the car". I go out to the car and she has bought me a new wet tile saw. Cracks me up, I can just see the wheels turning with her. We have been talking about redoing the tile in our kitchen and dining rooms so she is getting all geared up to do this. I am not complaining mind you, I love that she buys me tools for no reason. |
