I must admit to loving the idea of Holmes more than I've enjoyed almost anything I've seen or read-I struggle with the writing from that era and I don't think most of what I've seen do the books justice. The one exception I can think of are Mark Frost's books The List Of Seven & The Six Messiahs. They feature Conan Doyle as a protagonist opposed to Holmes but I feel they embody what Holmes was all about in Doyle's hands.
