Dexter - Scott Miller - 08-28-2008

I just wrapped up Season 2 last night and I must agree with all the thumbs-up from this thread. It was superior in every way to Season 1. Hall was absolutely brilliant in portraying the humanity of Dexter(I thought the scene at the NA meeting when he talked about his mask slipping was one of the most powerful bits of acting I've seen in awhile). I thought all the supporting cast really hit their stride this season and I liked both the Lundy and Lila additions to the series( Matsuka never fails to make me laugh). I don't think we've seen the last of Lundy either. Despite how Lila turned out, I thought she was instrumental in helping Dexter come to grips with himself. All in all it is definitely one of the best series going.

I just remembered one thing that bothered me, a continuity issue perhaps. I'm talking about the flashback where Dexter is in the process of dismembering his first victim and Harry is horrified by the discovery. Hadn't Harry already have him kill his nurse seen in a flashback from Season 1? If so, then why such a severe reaction?

Remember Harry knew he'd killed, but actually seeing him kill was another thing.

Agreed. Knowing it in the abstract is one thing, actually seeing the gruesome results of what you created is a whole other kettle of fish. I actually thought that scene was really well crafted, not just from Harry's perspective, but for the audience as well. Even though I'd seen Dexter kill before, it really made me squirm to think that THIS is the character that I love so much. I know it's fiction, etc., but it still made me squirm.

And I loved Lundy almost as much as I love Dexter. <3

I guess I can accept that but Harry didn't strike me as the type to delude himself that much. I wonder if they talked about the incident before Harry bid adieu.

It is indeed weird for me to talk about how much I hope a serial killer escapes the law; he could be my neighbor anytime.

Don't we all delude ourselves to some extent? I say I'd kill to protect my child if necessary (and I hope I would), but when the rubber meets the road I don't KNOW if I could do it.

Are you saying that I'm not as cool as I think I am? But yes, I think most suffer some form of self-delusion, but he'd been training Dexter for years, already had him kill, and had seen many horrors as a police officer(including finding Dexter in that cargo hold) so for him to be that disgusted rang false to me. I should point out that in no way diminishes my enjoyment of the show, it just stood out is all.

I've read all the books and seen the entire series to date yet I am having trouble remembering details. The nurse I remember Harry suggesting that Dexter kill was the nurse who was killing Harry with her over-ministrations. But I can't remember if Harry died then or recovered. He must have recovered, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to witness Dex's first really bloody kill. And did we see Dexter do the nurse? If yes, how did he kill her. Wasn't it fairly bloodless?

He stabbed her but it was essentially off screen if I remember correctly. I had to look that information up and came to a Dexter Wiki that some of you have probably visited before or may like to for the first time.

dexterwiki.sho.com/ I can't seem to make the link work, but that is the webpage and look under plot holes.

It seems as most people tend to agree with Gerald and Noelie, but there are some in my corner as well.

I just saw that episode recently on DVD. Harry recovered and got another year's life before dying from "hardening of the arteries".
