A Game of Thrones - The Mad American - 06-15-2011 Marc Wrote:Are you talking later in the season (I think there are only a handful of episodes left), or later in the series? Well I think the season is almost over so probably will carry over to next season. And also the books carry many other moments like the Ned Stark beheading. Moments that you can't believe happen. I don't know how far they intend to carry the TV series but if they go into the second book there are tons of moments like that. George RR Martin's writing can seem to drag so I understand the bore thing. The 4th book in the series was super hard for me to get through but I trudged through it to prepare myself for the 5th and hopefully to see how the storylines of favorite characters play out. A Game of Thrones - Anemone of the State - 06-15-2011 Next Sunday is the finale, and it seems like the series covers book 1 completely. And they are talking about a second season already so they must be going deeper into the books than the first one. That is good news. So how are you liking the books so far Anemone? That is good news. LOVING them. I just finished A Game of Thrones about an hour ago... and it filled that fantasy niche for me perfectly. I haven't been able to really get into the fantasy genre since I was a teen. A Song of Ice and Fire was written for adults... and written beautifully at that. I'll start on A Clash of Kings after I get my daughter to bed tonight. Thank you for helping me get this series into my own personal zeitgeist. (Looking forward to season 2 on HBO as well... they have done justice to the first book) A Game of Thrones - The Mad American - 06-16-2011 Anemone of the State Wrote:LOVING them. I actually liked the second and third books the best, so if that works for you, the best is yet to come. I am about halfway into rereading A Feast For Crows and hope to have it finished well before the release of the 5th book. I am dying to see the HBO series but will have to wait until they are released on DVD since I stubbornly refuse to pay for HBO. A Game of Thrones - Anemone of the State - 06-16-2011 I'll be buying the DVD series as soon as it is released too. I have to order the Japanese books for my wife soon though, and it sucks how the Japanese publisher has chopped them up. Japanese list Book 1 = 5 paperbacks costing $8 a piece Book 2 = 2 hard covers costing $30 each Book 3 = 3 hard covers costing $30 a piece... and they changed translator to the chagrin of the Japanese fans Book 4 = 2 hard covers costing $30 each So without shipping, it's around $250 from A Game of Thrones until A Feast for Crows. I can't imagine why book 1 would be broken up into 5 paperbacks. A Game of Thrones - Marc - 06-16-2011 Anemone of the State Wrote:I'll be buying the DVD series as soon as it is released too. Have to agree that Feast For Crows is the runt of the litter, but it didn't feel like a trudge, in fact, by the end of it I was left wanting more (it has some cracking cliff hangers). I'm loving the show, and even more so the reaction by the internet. I hope they don't treat all the battles that way, Whispering Wood made sense as their was no POV in it, but the Trident battle in the book showed an interesting facet of the Tywin/Tyrion relationship that the show skipped, but when all is said and done, the show has exceeded my expectations.
