Post-Harbingers Thoughts (SPOILERS) - Oculus - 05-31-2006

I thought Harbingers was great!

I enjoy all the RJ books and especially enjoyed Gateways, The Haunted Air and Conspiracies. (Unrelated - The Select was awesome too). Not since have I really browsed the forum. Forgot my sign in name so made a new one. (I don't think it's a spoiler because if you don't know, you simply don't know.)

Anywho, I live in Westchester, NY (home of the Xavier School Wink ) and work on E47th St in NYC. (P.S. NYC appearances 6/1 - 6/2!!) I love the accuracy and nice photos Maggers. <thumbsup>

I was on or around page 139 and never put the book down until I finished it. The Kosher Nosh phone call scene was a real nail-biter and page-turner! Nice!

Can't wait for RJ 11!!!

One thing we didn't bring up earlier in this thread was the actual "threat" Jack made to the Ally. Maybe I was reading too fast, but I didn't see that coming! And I thought at the time, wow - that Jack is one clever guy! Talk about a "checkmate" situation.

Was anybody else suprised? Other thoughts?

Post-Harbingers Thoughts (SPOILERS) - Paul R - 06-17-2006

Just finished Harbingers, and - as usual - read it way too fast and will be re-reading it soon.
In a word, brilliant. I loved the various connections that cropped up, especially the Twins. Knew they would have to be mentioned again sooner or later and it was nice to see what they were all about.
(There are big spoilers here, but there have also been enough warnings so if you read on, you've only yourself to blame!)
The Gia/Vicky/Emma thing had me almost going crazy. And Wifey too - I think she thought I was having an affair at some point given my obsession with mentioning them and worrying about their outcomes!
Having read Nightworld, I thought I knew that Gia and Vicky would be okay but Emma wouldn't make it. Then I remembered that Nightworld was being re-written so maybe Gia and Vicky wouldn't make it. Then I got it into my head that Gia and Vicky were never big players in Nightworld and so they could still be in there but... well, in some kind of comatose state. And then there was Emma. Damn, that was heartbreaking. I bet that one struck the 'parent readers' real badly. This was the second Repairman Jack book in a row that saw me shed a tear.
Have to say that I was pleased that Jack didn't become Mirko Abdic. Apart from anything else, the subtitle of any future Repairman Jack novels would have to read...
A Mirko Abdic Novel,
and I'm sure you'll all agree, it just wouldn't be the same!Big Grin
Off to re-read Infernal now, and then onto Harbingers again!

Post-Harbingers Thoughts (SPOILERS) - jaybird - 06-20-2006

 I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not but, here goes. When Jack was sitting in the park at nite and Rasalom was enjoying his misery, the woman with the dog came up and commanded Rasalom to leave,("There will be no more feeding on him tonite" ). How is it that she has so much power over him, yet can't stop him completely, or have more of a say as to what happens to Jack? In the end, she was able to bring back Vicki and Gia but, wasn't allowed to help Emma? Even though the Advisary dosen't have to play by any rules, is she bound by the rules that the Ally or the Advisary sets for her?

On another note, since Jack has pretty much accepted his role as the "Heir", I wonder if now Gia and Vicki are going to have a bigger role in the fight against the forces that "be". For the most part, the new Oculus has no protection. Cal might be the last one left( in the area). So, I wonder if Jack is going to have to do double duty, protect the Oculus and be the "Heir". To say the least, he has his plate pretty full.

One more thing and I'll shut up. Since the woman with the dog was the one who brought Gia and Vicki back, is Jack still bound to be the Ally's "butt boy" like he said while he was in front of the Oculus?

I must say, "Bravo Paul"!!! Once again you have outdone yourself. Great book! I ran through a spectrum of emotions. I cried, I laughed, I pumped my fist in victory, I grit my teeth in anger and I smiled with pure enjoyment. Thanks Paul for all of your hard work. Keep'em comming.

Jack is not bound to be the Ally's "butt boy". As the lady said, there was no deal, just Jack's threat. Jack can still off hisself, but he won't because that would leave G & V to face the upcoming "Nightworld:" alone. And the Ally knows that.

The ladies w/ dogs have limits to her abilities that appear (on the surface) to be at the pleasure of the Ally and Otherness. She couldn't help the gals as long as the Ally prevented her, likewise, she can only stop R from feeding on a one to one basis. She cannot cut him off from more than one sentient being at the same time. They are not on either side.

This was one of the best "RJ's" yet, fer sure!

OHHHHH,thats right I remember now. I forgot about the "deal" thing. Thanks for the insight bro.

Keith seems to have covered this very well. But there is one point to be made. Rasalom is in "human" form in this story, he can be hurt by the lady or her dog. Too bad the lady didn't sic the dog on him, cause a little pain on him for a change. But I think the lady didn't want to hurt her dog with the likes of that dasterdly Rasalom.

Good point Cobalt. Yeh, I would have enjoyed hearing R scream like a little girl when the dog got a hold of him. I can hear it now, "AAAHHHHHH!!! Ouch! No, wait, not the crotch. AAAHHHHH!! Hey lady call him off!!!! Ouw, damnit you stupid dog, quit it. OOOO! Damn, that hurts. Okay, alright, you win, I'll leave." R leaves with his head down in defeat and his hands covering the last vestages of what was once his manhood. That would be great.
