If the Kings of old had realized how compliant their subjects would be if they'd been given a voice in who would rule them and accept the actions of the ruling elite as their choice, voting would have been around at the dawn of civilization. (They'd also appreciate the ability of how easy it is to manipulate the vote in their favor. The real ruler would't even have to worry about elections, just make sure he has some puppets up to vote to do his bidding, as you alluded too) |
