Twilight Zone - Sigokat - 04-10-2012

I'm in to season 3. I had to go home over the weekend, so I didn't watch any obviously.

As for Star Trek alumni? Shatner, Nimoy, Takei, Doohan? Those are the only 4 I can think of that have been in TZ as well.

Speaking of ST alumni...have you ever seen The Man from Uncle? There is an episode (pre-Trek) that has both Shatner and Nimoy in the same ep. Pretty cool.

Twilight Zone - PicardRex - 04-10-2012

Yeah those are the 4 I meant, I had counted 4 previously, Brian brought up the Takei episode, which made 4.

I haven't seen that, sounds cool. Pre-Trek Shatner is interesting to see, because even though he is Kirk to me, people forget he was a stage actor/"real" actor before he was Kirk and all his performances took on Kirk like qualities.

Twilight Zone - Sigokat - 04-10-2012

I heard that Shatner's acting in ST was due to a lot of last minute scripts being handed to the cast and he had difficulty remembering his lines. Its hard to know if that is true though since the other actors didn't seem to have that problem (except there were a few times it seemed DeForest Kelley was struggling with lines).

I have seen the Nimoy episode in the past (he's just a small part, not the main actor) and I can't ever remember seeing the one with Doohan. I don't know if The Encounter was ever aired like Brian said though, I remember it was originally pulled from the show and I can never remember ever seeing it on TV during all the marathons and reruns, ony on VHS and DVD.

Twilight Zone - PicardRex - 04-10-2012

Really, I hadn't heard that before, doesn't surprise me though, that show was on the brink since its inception, haphazard was probably the only way it got done.

Yeah, Nimoy's role is small, I think its The Purple Testament or A Quality of Mercy, both of those are Pacific war oriented episodes, so I get them mixed up. Doohan is in season 4, Valley of the Shadow. I kept thinking I knew the guy, but he appeared thinner than I remembered. I looked up info about The Encounter, interesting stuff really, it said it was aired originally but never syndicated in the US. Also, the reason that it was pulled was because Asian-Americans, specifically Japanese-Americans complained about Takei's character being the son of a Japanese-American spy, which there apparently hasn't ever been proof of.

Thats another reason I like Serling and the show, he touched some pretty raw subjects, in season 4 there is an episode where Dennis Hopper plays a Nazi, can't help thinking it would have been a touchy subject, considering this wasn't even 20 years later.

Twilight Zone - Sigokat - 04-10-2012

The Nimoy episode, iirc, the squad leader was seeing all his men as Japanese soldiers or the other squads were? Something like that, correct? Like I said, its been awhile and I'm not yet to season 4.

I have my final exams this week so I probably won't get to any TZ until I am done.

Yeah there is like a gung-ho new lieutenant, played by Dean "Al" Stockwell, who wants to kill 'em all. He gets cast into the role of one of the Japanese and learns that the enemy is us sort of deal.

Twilight Zone - Sigokat - 04-10-2012

yeah that's the one.

So you've been through the whole series now? Do you remember the name of the episode that Toni mentioned earlier in the thread about the toys in the donation barrel?

Twilight Zone - PicardRex - 04-10-2012

Well, I am just starting season 5 now, like I said 4 was a bitch to get through sometimes. The one he referred to was 5 Characters in Search of an Exit. It was written by Serling(of course)based on a story by someone else, the title a riff on a famous play. The clown thats on all the openings and the line "who are we?", they're from that episode.

Twilight Zone - Sigokat - 04-10-2012

yeah my wife keeps seeing that clown and wants to see that episode, but I couldn't remember the title and didn't want to look through all the descriptions LOL. I know the episode and what happens, but she doesn't so I don't want to ruin it for her

You're probably right about that episode. It could have been a CD. I remember watching it after Christmas, but it was one of those days that went by in a haze after my dad died. I'll have to check with my brother. I'm thinking he has that box set of TZ and I just thought it was a marathon.
