What Movies are Well-Suited for a Remake or Sequel? - t4terrific - 01-19-2010

Yeratel Wrote:Looking at the list of films coming out this year, there are also remakes of Red Dawn, Robin Hood, and Predator,

Robin Hood sounds good. Russel Crow should be good in it.

Predator was terrific! There is no way they will make a better version of it. I'm not saying they can't, just that they won't.

Red Dawn could be improved, but I don't like the direction they seem to be going with it.

I personally think that the Roger Corman-directed film 'The Secret Invasion' would do well in a remake. True, the original had Stuart Granger and Mickey Rooney (the latter in an especially enjoyable tough guy role), but the film itself was kind of boring, a little underwhelming, and had one scene I thought it could have done without (no spoiler, sorry). Now if they remade it, however...it would be hard to not have it be dubbed a post-Inglourious Basterds ripoff. You know, American refugees going in to kill Nazis...tough act to follow. But, I still think a good remake could be done, given the right people behind and in front of the camera.

I'll be watching The Neverending Story with my daughter this weekend. I think that would be an excellent choice for a remake. Cut out all the 80s cheese and load up on special effects as this is a movie that would benefit from it.

The Legend of Hell House.

I like original film in '70s. But I'd like to see more spooky scenes which I read in Richard Matheson's novel.

DOC SAVAGE. I'd like to see it done right.

DAMNATION ALLEY - An absolute crap version was made of the very good Roger Zelazny novel. Do it right, cast William Smith as Hell Tanner, the last living Hell's Angel.

Who is this "Fresh Prince" of whom you speak?

William Smith. Big Bill Smith. The Russian Spetznaz Commander in RED DAWN. The bare knuckle boxer Clint Eastwood fought in EVERY WHICH WAY YOU CAN. A series regular on HAWAII FIVE-O (Kimo) and LAREDO. Falconetti on RICH MAN POOR MAN. A veteran of every AIP Biker flick ever made (RUN, ANGEL, RUN!; ANGELS DIE HARD). Huge freakin' bodybuilder, 2 time U.S. wrist-wrestling champion in the 200 pound class in Petaluma. Speaks 5 languages. Korean war Vet. Was going to play Kwai Chang Caine on KUNG FU but was so big and scary looking the producers thought no racist cowboy would dare approach him. CONAN THE BARBARIAN's dad. Record-holder for reverse-curling his own body weight. Master's degree in Russian (Cum Laude) from UCLA, where he taught. Direct descendent of Daniel Boone and Kit Carson. Studied Kenpo with Ed Parker and Gung Fu with Jimmy Woo for eight years. Bruce Lee asked him to play John Saxon's role in ENTER THE DRAGON but couldn't because another film role ran long. Was in GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN as a child actor. Light-Heavyweight boxer. Fought killer insect women in INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS.

That Bill Smith.

That's a recognition that if DAMNATION ALLEY were remade today, it would probably be re-written to feature Will "Fresh Prince" Smith.Wink

You're right, Mick. Doc deserves a flick as mighty and righteous as he was.
