Repairman Jack Movie? - Ken Valentine - 06-06-2009

Logan Wrote:I can understand wanting to keep Jack as close to the description in FPW's books as close as possible, but unfortunately movie producers rarely use the original content and do what they like. I'm betting they lose Ryan and go with Sean Connery. (sigh)
The screen writers and producers have actually been working pretty closely with Paul.

It's the choice of director that would worry me. Directors often go off onto their own particular tangents and turn movies into something they were not intended to be.

P.S. Welcome back Logan. It's been a long time since you last posted.

...so he can play Jack and James Cameron can direct? Can anyone say Aliens (at the end hero saves little girl on ship from monsters)?

Like I said. Spooky.

HEY NOW!!! If we can get Worthington AND Cameron on the first "JACK" movie that would be GREAT!!!! And, if Worthington would bow out, I could step in, in a pinch! I'm 6'2" 200lbs, very good shape (others are always saying that to me) and I personally know most of the talents that JACK possesses. I know how to pick locks, know how to fight, and, even though I'm 57, people keep thinking that I'm in my mid-30's (never smoked, drank or drugged, workout alot, etc) and I can speak with a east coast accent! Now, that I'm done tooting my own horn (Hey! If I don't do it, nobody will, hehehehehehe) I was JUST kidding, folks. I have as much chance of even BEING in a major film as Woody Allen playing James Bond! :hand:

(And YES, people I do know that Woody Allen DID play James Bond in the 1960's version of "Casino Royale"!!!)

Thanks Ken V. I'm amazed you'd remember me! Anyone else for that matter.

I remember you for an odd reason.

I had shot some Cowboy Action matches back in the '90's with a man whose alias was Logan, and you're avatar of a ceremonial Buffalo skull reminds me of him. Nice guy, and a good shooter.

(Yes, I know, I have a weird mind.)

Well, I won't contradict you on that, Ken.Big Grin

Though far out of reach, how about Scorsese as the director?

I couldn't care less, and I wasn't talking to you anyway.

Well, I personally think that most of these actors are too 'pretty' to be JACK. What I had in mind was an actor like "Paul Mantee", who was an action hero actor from the mid-60's. He starred in "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" when he was about 33, and he is a 'forgetable' type of person, which I guess is the reason his career never really took off! But if the casting director could find a total unknown who was normal looking, everyday guy sort of appearance. I don't know if I've said this here before, but the BEST spy in history was this short, fat, bald, middle aged man, who worked for the US during the cold war era, walked right into the former soviet union, did his business, and walked out again, and NOBODY suspected him of anything. He did this back and forth for over 10 years and RETIRED!!!! Totally amazing!

Desmond Harrington is pretty forgetable...his career is not exactly on fire, one would argue, precisely because he's not pretty enough for Hollywood.

As far as memory serves, Jack is not overly short, nor fat, nor bald, nor middle aged.

Personally, I do not think that the world (and certainly not the big screen) is ready for a Danny Devito-esque "Repairman Jack".
