longbowhunter Wrote:OK....this is hard for me to say but....I wasnt satisfied. This book was supposed to be the wrap-up of everything thats been going on in the last couple of novels and....unless NIGHTWORLD is being re-written to be much more Jack-centric,this was just too rushed and left too many plot holes. Where were the Yenciri and the Occulus? When did R get to the book and how did he fix it to always open on that page? How did R get the sword? Whats going on with Hank and the Kickers? Why did they drive the Lady out to the pyramid in Johnson only to have her come right back? And why didnt she just take the baby back to the pyramid and name him there? Definitely feeling some frustration here....but the scene where Jacks pingpongs R around an exploding kitchen ALMOST makes up for it!!!

Yeah I want to know what happened to the occulus. Is she going to show up in night world? I feel like I got no closure there.

Have I said this before?

I'd like a scene where the occulus eyes clear up and she's both relieved and horrified by that. Then at the end have them go black again.

Exactly what I'd like to know

Not that I recall. Tons of souls do turn up, though. And rest assured, Rasalom gets a well-deserved fate.

None of the characters discussed even existed when the original version was published. I haven't read the revised edition but I would be surprised if all of them are in it.

I thought it'd be cooler than Hollywood if Paul made characters of all the gang on the board in the final NIGHTWORLD.

IMO if the occulus stayed involved in Jack's storyline it would have created a difficult plotting issue as it would have meant that the Ally would probably have had more knowledge of transpiring events than what was indicated by the plot in Nightworld.

Okay, I'm probably going to feel stupid here, but my memory must be failing me. What was special about the box that Rasalom entrusted to Drexler in FATAL ERROR? In TDATE, Rasalom has Drexler retrieve the box, which was previously described as rectangular and about three feet long. Then Rasalom goes to Jack's place to get the Gaijin Masamune. (I confess I missed that on the first read-through myself, but that sequence is basically told from Drexler's perspective, and he doesn't know where Jack lives.) Then Rasalom is described as coming back with just the box, so presumably the Gaijin Masamune is inside, yes? (Is it really that short? I can't remember the length described in BY THE SWORD.)

I skimmed through FATAL ERROR again last night trying to find more references to the box, but I didn't notice anything after it arrives for Drexler. Are we going back to BY THE SWORD or earlier? Why is my brain not working?

Now that the whole series is out and done, one of these days I'm just going to have to start a marathon and reread them all in sequence (preferably in chronological Secret History order).

Or perhaps the Oculus's powers faded with each "death" of the Lady, representing the Ally's gradual withdrawal from this sphere--or at least lack of attention to it. Just a thought.

somevelvetmorning Wrote:I liked it, I really did, but am still confused about the disappearance of the harbingers characters ..and sort of disappointed about the lack of any real answers about tom...and for some reason I though Abe might have a more direct role.

If we had any real answers about Tom, his fate wouldn't be as horrifying. If there's anything I've learned from reading FPW's stuff, it's that uncertainty and lack of control are scarier than anything. And I think that's often his point.

As for Abe... the man managed to come up with Stinger missiles and set the stage for one of the greatest sequences in the entire series. I'm good with that. Smile
