True Grit - The Mad American - 01-31-2011

KRW Wrote:I caught it this weekend with my dad and we both enjoyed it. It was very easy to follow the original in most of the scenes. My gripe...fake snakes. The part I liked the most... target practice with corn dodgers. I came away with an odd feeling but not from the movie itself, but that I was probably the youngest one in attendance at this viewing. Hopefully the marquee I saw outside the door will draw a younger crowd, "Cowboys & Aliens"! (Hey, it has Harrison Ford in it.)

That is funny. When my wife and I went to see it we were also by far the youngest people in attendance.

I loved this movie but yeah I would agree on the fake snakes part. That just stuck out like a sore thumb in this movie.

Everything else was pretty authentic, why use CG snakes in that scene? It's easy enough to round up a dozen or so snakes and probably cheaper than the CG. Anyway, there was one thing I was expecting that didn't happen. Minor spoilers!

When Rooster is carrying Mattie after Little Blackie died, and he was slowing down and stumbling about the time they came close to that cabin, I fully expected Mattie to pull out a knife and stab him in his flanks a couple of times!Big Grin

Lol. That would have been fitting wouldn't it?

I had forgotten about Little Blackie from the original...so of course I didn't like that scene when it happened. I understood it since he was rode to the brink of death anyways, but I still didn't like it.

I'm a softy when it comes to animals getting hurt or killed in movies. I know its fake, but still...it bothers me. Smile

I am with you there, I am a softy too when it comes to animals. But as you said I understood why it happened and all that, but it still didn't set well with me. And that is good I think if a piece of fiction in any form can bring about feelings like that.

As for a being a softy about animals in movies I saw the other day that someone remade "Where the Red Fern Grows"....why in the hell would you want to remake that movie? I mean it was good writing and a good movie but I would never ever watch that damn thing again. Too raw for me with the dogs. What a pussy eh?Smile

Hey Sig, have you ever seen "Where The Red Fern Grows"? If you haven't, dont. It will tear you up.
