And no, Michael Bay will be assassinated if attached to RJ. He has a feel for horror, dark humor and is quite familiar with the source material. I was thinking of Marc too! Both dark movies and a mainstay of modern pop culture with deep fantasy undertones. But I have a different perspective, if I may. Michael Mann directed The Keep... the start really for the whole saga. And based on his roots for filming in New York and area, in particular his work on Collateral and the gun-fight scenes with Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise, I think he'd be a great choice as director. His capture of the gritty undertones and darkness of New York would capture the essence. Only problem I figure would crop up is that he's leaned more towards hitmen/gangster movies to his capturing the essence of supernatural tendencies might be a bit... dry. But one of the big reasons I mention this also is the fight scene on the subway towards the end of the movie. Very reminiscient of, which book was it... memory's failing... the one with Sandy, the goofy little reporter guy... Hosts, right? Anyhoo, just a though and another two cents from this crazy Canuck. Don't let Bones Weep Tedium hear you...he is president of the the Michael Mann, die-die-die fan-club. If he gets all verclempt, he'll start talking about the worldwide conspiracy to murder his parents! (Bones', not Michael Mann's...although ya gotta wonder about Bones some times). [regular voice]While that subway scene is very good, as is the subway scene from The Brave One by Niel Jordan, I cannot forgive Micahel Mann, for The Keep (he wrote the screenplay too...sheesh!). I wouldn't want to see the Jack series turn into one where every even-numbered movie is an apology for the odd numbered ones. There...even fellow Canuck's can disagree on some things...so the brainwashing hasn't been perfected yet. Oh well, I'll enjoy my gun control, my universal health care and my strong Canadian dollar while the Prozium kicks in. Heh. -Wapitikev Who should direct "Repairman Jack I: Claws of the Rakoshi"? - bones weep tedium - 04-08-2008 [sturs from slumber] What? Someone mention Michael Mann?? I agree with you that Michael Mann's Collateral was a good movie and had some awesome action scenes, the only problem is that your concern that he wouldnt handle the supernatural stuff well doesn't go far enough --- he wouldnt handle it at all. I can't remember where I read it - it might have been somewhere on this excellent fansite or maybe in the foreword to FPW's comic book version - but Micheal Mann's first mistake was to mess with his source material. Apparently he didnt like the vampirey stuff which is why he re-wrote it into the nonsense that he did. Now that he's a famous and well established director he wouldnt have any problems dropping the supernaturally stuff altogether - and RJ without the supernaturally stuff is just another detective story. |
