What was your name before you changed it to Lisa?

True, you have the right to say that. I want JoePa to keep coaching until Bobby Bowden retires and Joe can regain the total victories record. Just like I want the Stillers to hurry up and win their sixth Super Bowl so they surpass the Cowboys and 49ers. Guess I like the whole No. 1 thing. Living in Big 10 land and being from PA, I get sick of the midwest teams or Ohio State (I don't consider Ohio as "midwest") winning the league championship every year.

I got mine when I was 13 and got my first job. My card says "For tax purposes only . . . not to be used for identification."

Same with my younger brother, and he has the lower number! So far, there have been no problems -- probably because he's almost never had a job.

ROTFL! That was a good one!

I have had a social security card since we first moved to the US in 1975.

After 8 years of marriage I had "forgotten" to get my name changed on my social security card. But last year (when I still lived in Georgia) I got a letter saying I had to change it or I wouldn't be allowed to have a driver's license. Hunh.

So I kept forgetting until we moved to Alabama and I really didn't want to get arrested. The closest SS administration building was in Chattanooga, so I drove the 65+ miles to get a new SS# after having read the guidelines online for what I needed. But after waiting for an hour they said they couldn't give me one because I was born outside of the U.S.A. They told me to come back with my birth certificate or passport.

A week or two later I went back with my birth certificate and they were all upset because some magic number that the computer asked for. I have a US passport, but I couldn't find it after the move. I was sure they could punch up my social security number and see that, but NO! And after the Patriot Act I guess anyone who was born outside the US is a potential terrorist. After being there FOREVER and insisting I was legal and talking to manager after manager, they finally gave me my card. What a mess.

Then just last week I tried to transfer my Georgia Driver's license to Alabama and ran into the same issue! They wouldn't accept my GA license, updated social security card and my birth certificate as proof of citizenship.

Now I have to get a new passport since I can't find it. I wonder how much fun that will be?

Thanks a lot, George Dubyah!

I feel your pain Susan. I have been going through the process to acquire dual-citizenship to Ireland for just over two years now. For every step forward it has felt like two steps back, with all of the different official documentation required and signed statements and double-checks, etc. But thank God it all appears to be coming to an end.

Those are the only real words of encouragement I can offer you...that it will, eventually, wrap itself up.

Hang in there.

Mike

I knew your family was Irish, but I had no idea you were born in Ireland. Or can you still get dual citizenship to another country if one or both of your parents were born there?

Mike, are you moving to Ireland? Or just getting dual citizenship for giggles?
