LOST Tonight!! - Maggers - 05-15-2007 Some LOST thoughts, which is a fairly accurate assessment.... Ben's mother died in childbirth. I believe there is a link between Ben and pregnant women on the island dying in child birth. Ben's father hated Ben for "killing" Ben's mother. Ben grew to hate his father and eventually kill him. There is an absurdly large number of survivors on the island who've killed their fathers, or who feel guilty and somehow responsible for their fathers' deaths, or who, at the very least, have seriously flawed relationships with their fathers. There's a link amongst them all in Ben, somehow, though I'm not quite sure how. At the beginnng of the last episode, Ben is holding the wooden doll carved by his young friend Annie. Richard, the ageless guy who first met Ben in the woods, asks about it. Ben tells him it's a birthday gift and that it is his birthday. Then Ben asks Richard in his ever so snide way, "You remember birthdays, don't you, Richard?" I think Ben's referring obliquely to Richard's being ages old, and in fact, a survivor of the Black Rock shipwreck. Ben inadvertently created a monster in Locke. He didn’t expect Locke to come back and effortlessly threaten Ben’s hold over the others. The new and improved Locke has rocked Ben’s world, and Paul is so right that Ben doesn’t like it one bit. May be more to come.... LOST Tonight!! - Auskar - 05-15-2007 Maggers Wrote:Ben's father hated Ben for "killing" Ben's mother. Ben grew to hate his father and eventually kill him. The last two posts have some good insights. LOST Tonight!! - Paul R - 05-15-2007 Wifey and I watched the episode again last night and have come up with this... Back in 'Enter 77', Locke entered the numbers on Mikail's computer that he was told would alert Dharma to the fact that the Hostiles had invaded. Suppose Naomi, the parachutist, is one of the Dharma rescue crew and her ship is full of Dharma operatives ready to open a can of wuppass on the Hostiles? That would go some way to explaining why Ben was so aghast to learn about her. He would, presumably, know about Dharma having a stand-by team ready in case of Hostile invasions. LOST Tonight!! - Paul R - 05-15-2007 And another thing. Marc's picture of Jacob (which I totally hadn't noticed when I watched the show - thank goodness for this site!) a few posts ago looks remarkably like Locke. I'm pretty sure this will be clutching at straws though. Like Ben wouldn't recognise Locke? And like Locke wouldn't recognise himself?! But they do look similar. Perhaps it's an older version of Locke trapped in time... LOST Tonight!! - Maggers - 05-15-2007 Paul R Wrote:Wifey and I watched the episode again last night and have come up with this... What a great suggestion! Excellent Paul and wifey! LOST Tonight!! - DaveStrorm - 05-15-2007 I would really like to have more information about Richard's past. He gets to leave the island (as does Ethan and who knows who else) on occasion which I find odd for some reason. Does he voluntarily come back because the island is "home" to him? Otherwise it seems he could just stay off the island.

I bet he has to come home to the island to regenerate, if he is, indeed, a survivor of long standing....very long standing, i.e., a survivor of the Black Rock. But who the heck knows. I like your idea of getting backstory on Richard. LOST Tonight!! - Paul R - 05-16-2007 I think that it's fair to say that this season has far surpassed either of the other two. I thought season one would ultimately be my favourite but pretty much every episode of this season has been terrific. I can't even begin to imagine what they have in store for us for the season finale. It's definitely going to be a long wait until next year for season four! With all the flashbacks and reruns, though, it hasn't hurt me. I just thought it sounded real hokey and low budget. A mythical monster in the forest that no one ever sees? Relentlessly, I made fun of my friends that did watch the show and finally, I started watching just so I would know what to make fun of. Then I got hooked. I hope next week's season finale is good. This week had nothing about Locke. LOST Tonight!! - Marc - 05-17-2007 Auskar Wrote:I hope next week's season finale is good. This week had nothing about Locke.
