Did you live in OKC when that F5 hit a few years back? Hi KRW ! EGADS, yes !! I built my house about six years ago and it has been missed LITERALLY by 4 tornadoes by a 1/2 mile since then. My area of OKC (a 'burb called Moore) is known locally as "the mini-tornado alley". I consider myself a very brave person, but when you hear the largest tornado in recorded history pass by your house, it scares the "heck" out of you....to say the least ! My apologies for not picking a more creative user-name Although the plane I fly is based on the last version the 707 (final version produced in 1986)....it is a highly modified military version. And a not-so-modified Cessna 182 for myself. Greetings (from the new guy) - KRW - 11-25-2004 flyboy707 Wrote:Hi KRW ! EGADS, yes !! I lived in OK for 17 years and I know the feeling you're talking about. We would have to hit the basement freguently in the spring. I almost miss the sound of those sirens going off at midnight, grabing your pants, and making sure everybody makes it in the celler! It became pretty intense a few times. It was always best when you could watch one out in a field directing it's fury into the dirt instead of houses and barns. I have family all over OK and a few in OKC! They had some stories to tell about that F5 that May! Nice aircraft . . . the Cessna that is. I think the last time I went up in a Cessna was 1980, and I don't remember what model it was. I don't fly, but I do enjoy working on aircraft. Currently, I'm helping a friend restore a couple of Stearman's. Well . . . build would probably be a better description. He went through eight airframes before he found one that was worth restoring, and even then, we ended up replacing nearly half the tubes. We have the second one on the fixture right now, and it's cut off right after the front cockpit. The rest of it wasn't worth saving. I've also done some restoration work on Warbirds for the Planes Of Fame Museum in Chino, California. Oh, do they have some fascinating planes. Happy flying. Ken V. Welcome to the board, flyboy. I was in the AF myself, in an enlisted respect. I was a DAS tech. You're welcome. So how long have you been in? I'm back from an extended (5 1/2 months) hiatus myself. --Jake Greetings (from the new guy) - flyboy707 - 11-26-2004 Baxx Wrote:Welcome to the board, flyboy. I've been doing it for just about 14 years....just got past my commitment...so my life is mine again......I like what I do, so I am still in. My apologies, but I am not certain what a DAS tech is...aircraft maintenance? |
