Sequels that should never have been made - matthewsmommy - 01-13-2005 Didn't they make a Gone With The Wind sequel called Scarlett? It may have just been on TV or something, but what the hell were they thinking??? You can't do that, you just can't. (Keep in mind I haven't seen it, I can't even stand the thought) Disney is gettin ridiculous with the sequels. . . . Cinderella 2, Little Mermaid 2, Pocahontas 2, Hunchback 2, on and on and on. . . . . I LOVE Toy Story 2! Jungle Book 2 and Peter Pan 2 weren't bad, but nothing like the originals. I also like all of the Star Wars (trilogy, that is), Indiana Jones, and Back to the Future sequels. Dirty Dancing 2, puhleeeeez. . . . . I can recite the first one in my sleep. There is no need to follow up on that story, thank you very much! Some things are better left untouched! Sequels that should never have been made - jimbow8 - 01-13-2005 ...And I think they are up to Land Before Time 46: Search for the Moldy Goatcheese. The first one was pretty good, but give it a rest already. Sequels that should never have been made - matthewsmommy - 01-13-2005 jimbow8 Wrote:...And I think they are up to Land Before Time 46. Trish, We could be twins, separated at birth (after the LONGEST delivery on record!! ). I was thinking about the awful "GWTW" sequel, and I can quote you chapter and verse of "Dirty Dancing." I liked it better than the 3rd one (they kind of made Sean Connery a wimp in that one). In The Last Crusade, I saw Sean Connery as a bookish man who "rose to the occasion." I'll bet he had a lot of fun playing that role. I think Temple of Doom was the least of the three. I still liked it however. Ken V. I could go on and list a thousand reasons, but fans of Indy are split right down the middle with this movie. It's a love/hate thing and there is no bringing anyone over to the other side. Believe me, I've tried. I liked Temple of Doom. I just like the others better. Temple of Doom did have some good slapstick scenes in it. Ken V. Sequels that should never have been made - Lisa - 01-13-2005 The GWTW sequel was actually a book first. I didn't see the movie, but I read (some of) the book, which wasn't good either. GWTW is my mom's all time favorite book and movie, so I grew up with images of it all over the house. For Mother's Day a few years ago I got her the Franklin Mint Scarlett O'Hara doll and she had a freak. It now sits (well, stands) under the original GWTW marquee poster in her bedroom. Although I hate it, I will admit that the last time I watched it (when the DVD's came out), I had, unfortunately, realized that it was no longer the worst movie I had ever seen, which I had previously thought. No, that place belongs to scum-sucking travesties like Species 2 or Highlander 2. And while on Highlander, I think it was Lisa who called the sequel "The Sickening," which is perfect. I know we had an extensive discussion of Highlander back on the old forum (many of us refuse to believe this movie actually exists), so I'm not trying to resurrect it here, but how in the world did this happen? Haven't the creators been involved in all the projects? That leads me to the thought that it must be hard for FPW to make sure the integrity of his characters and plotlines are kept as he writes. Or maybe it's easy for him because he cares. Any comments from The Man himself on the challenge of this? I also noticed comments about GOOD sequels. It's odd how some series can get better and some go down the drain. I feel that LORD OF THE RINGS got better with each film, culminating in an excellent Extended Version of RETURN OF THE KING on DVD which I like even better than the theater version. Someone said DIE HARD 2 was terrible. I disagree there, because I saw DIE HARD 2 first, and I have felt this was the best of the three. Personal opinion, for sure. I know most others probably disagree. I agree, however, that ALIENS was superior to ALIEN. However, I kind of like ALIEN3, too, but ALIENS is, yes, a better film overall. Funny, I rewatch ALIEN3 more, though. Probably because of the Paul McGann connection since I'm a DOCTOR WHO fanatic. I also liked TERMINATOR 2 better than TERMINATOR, although all three of these films had certain good qualities for me. I agree with Jimbo that Spider-Man 2 was better than the first. Sublime said only HOME ALONE and HOME ALONE 2 were good. For me, I really only TRULY liked HOME ALONE 3. The new kid made the film for me. One last thought: STAR TREK films. I am sure there is a variety of views out there since the series of films is very long now. But I truly believe that STAR TREK 5 should never have been made. Useless, in my opinion. William Shatner has somewhat graciously become a funny guy over the years, doing some silly stuff on Jay Leno's show, making fun of himself a lot, etc., but he directed this one. Nothing funny about having that on the resume. Sean Sequels that should never have been made - Flinx - 01-13-2005 Add Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps & Dr. Dolittle 2 As far as I'm concerned the first movies shouldn't have been made either. Should start another thread for remakes that shouldn't have been made.
