If we're talking directors.....what about Ron Howard? He seems to have pretty much everything he touches turn into a big hit.

Good thought, cobalt. But I think maybe Ron is just too nice...too =good= an hombre. Does he truly understand Eee-vil? You'd have to, to do THE KEEP justice. Just my evil opinion.

Peter Jackson would be good, no doubt, but perhaps a little pricey.
I'd suggest either Simon Wincer or Frank Darabont who have both done excellent work directing period-piece book adaptations.
Wincer did Lonesome Dove - arguably the best book-to-film adaptation ever.
Darabont did The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Again, brilliant work. Since Darabont has done more films dealing with the supernatural, he'd be my first pick.

Well, that would be nice. So, who's sending Jackson a copy of the book to get him interested?
Seriously though, Jackson leans toward fantasy and Wincer toward westerns, so I'll still make Frank Darabont my first choice. Hey, maybe I should send him a copy of The Keep!

I don't know about his other movies, but Bill Paxton directed FRAILTY, and it was extemely creepy.
Give him a few years, and he could play Glaeken, also.

I was quite impressed with Bill Paxton's directing in FRAILTY, especially since he was also a lead actor in the film. His debut directing of a feature, too, right? That is one of those movies you don't soon forget.
