Rolling Rock bites the dust :-( - Scott Hajek - 05-24-2006 Peter Wrote:I hate to upset you all but in my extensive (look, four whole days I spent there!) travels in the USA I couldnt find an American beer I liked, and I REALLY tried! Ended up with Adams Boston Ale (I think thats what it was called) but wasnt really keen on that either. It all depends on what your tastes are. Most of the big name American beers suck... Miller Lite anyone? But, it depends on your mood and your usual preference. What do you normally drink? Let us know and the next time you're here, we can make sure to point you in the right direction.... Rolling Rock bites the dust :-( - Peter - 05-24-2006 Canadian Beers? I dont think they had any in Indianapolis, but I was only trying draught beers. What do I usually drink? Well, I am tempted to say anything I can keep down best out of three but that was when I was young and foolish. Now I am old and foolish my favourite is probably Old Speckled Hen. A good, strong English bitter. Five pints of that and I am up for anything. In truth I say I am up for anything when stone cold sober but after five pints of Hen I actually belive it! Rolling Rock bites the dust :-( - Manda_W - 05-24-2006 UT Austin There are no major beers in America worth a damn, but there are a few independents that are pretty good. St Arnolds in Houston is pretty good and Colorado has a few survivors that are drinkable. But, by and large, in the US, gotta drink the imports. Any beer with "lite" or "light" in the name is bound to suck, and I won't touch any American macrobrew (or Canadian). On the other hand, there are many good regional and micro-brewed beers. But, if given a choice at a bar when baseball is merely a fleeting thought? Never would I drink one. Rolling Rock bites the dust :-( - Peter - 05-25-2006 Just a thought but I would be interested to know. Do you get any UK (presumably bottled) beers over there? If so, what do you think of them? I have (not joking this time!) travelled a fair bit round Europe and nowhere else seems to make beer like the British or even have tried any of ours to give me an opinion. I suppose what I am trying to find out is do I like our Strong Bitters just because I was bought up on them or would a stranger taste one and say "Now THAT is what I have been waiting all my life for!" And, before anyone accuses me of being trivial, may I just point out that this beer we are talking about. Not a trivial matter at all! If so, what do you think of them? You Brits do a credible job with your beers, but I honestly prefer the Irish and Scottish brews. I do put you ahead of the Western Europeans though. Caveat: some of the Eastern European (Czech, Slovak and Polish) beers I think are better than yours, but they're not as well known as the Western European brews, which leave me wanting.
