And also Big Trouble in Little China. But not Princess Mononoke. Films you just love! - CANADIANRJFAN - 06-01-2005 Jay #1 Wrote:Glad to see I'm not the only one that likes Galaxy Quest. I swear it's taboo where I live. If I so much as even mention the title, 8 people snarl at me including one that wasn't close enough to hear the conversation. Galaxy Quest cracked me up! Especially Alan Rickman (Dr. Lazarus). Best Quote: ' .... and why are you listening to him? Thats a costume hes wearing not a uniform.' (His lines in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves were also priceless). Films you just love! - Ken Valentine - 06-02-2005 CANADIANRJFAN Wrote:Galaxy Quest cracked me up! Galaxy Quest is another of my favorites too. And yes, Alan Rickman played a vile evil character in "Prince Of Thieves," but he played it sarcastically, and as you say, some of his lines were just priceless. Ken V. Jason; "Stop for a second, stop. It's all real." Boy; "Oh my God, I knew it. I knew it! I knew it!" I was convulsed with laughter in theater. Of course, I bought DVD. Emerald Forest stars Powers Boothe, one of the great character actors of our time, who stars with Rutger Hauer, Kathleen Turner, and Donald Pleasance in A Breed Apart, a cool little action flick about rare birds. A couple of writer/directors who typically make movies I enjoy are David Mamet and David Cronenberg. From Mamet I recommend Spartan, State and Main, Oleanna House of Games, The Spanish Prisoner, & The Winslow Boy. From Cronenberg my list is The Fly, Spider, eXistenZ, Dead Ringers, The Dead Zone, Videodrome, Scanners, & Rabid. When I looked up Cronenberg it showed a film titled History of Violence that is apparently making the rounds at festivals. It stars Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, William Hurt, and Ed Harris. The premise is an average family is thrust into the spotlight after the dad shoots someone in self-defense at his diner. I can't wait. Another Day in Paradise with James Woods and Melanie Griffith as a criminal couple who take a young couple under their wings. Woods is great. And finally Melanie teams with Jeff Daniels and Ray Liotta, in his first movie, in Jonathon Demme's comic-noir treat, Something Wild. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 3. Galaxy Quest (Those first three are my Holy Trinity of Perfect Lisa Movies) 4. Braveheart 5. Highlander (If it's not Scottish it's crap!) I am surprised that so many people love Galaxy Quest since it's somewhat obscure (wasn't a huge hit or anything). I actually saw it three times at the theater. And that was when my kids were babies so you can imagine the wrangling that took! I also LOVE Aliens and Total Recall, but then my top five would be a top 7, so... Lisa |
