Great Movies or TV Series to Recommend - sll - 05-25-2005 I canceled HBO, but when I had it I enjoyed Six Feet Under Great Movies or TV Series to Recommend - Scott Miller - 05-27-2005 I'll add a little international flavor to the mix as the marketing machine tends to ignore our friends from around the world. Nine Queens is one of my favorite films of all time. A supreme scam movie, Criminal is the okay American remake. I CAN NOT imagine anyone who likes RJ, not liking this. Cronos is a real cool little Mexican vampire flick. Much more low key, but way more effective than most American attempts. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not is a fantastic French romantic comedy mystery starring the effervescent Audrey Tautou. Better than Amelie IMO. Everybody's Famous is a great feel good movie from Germany. Intermission is an ensemble dramatic thriller from Ireland where all the disparate pieces all get wrapped up in a tidy ending. The Eye is The Sixth Sense on steroids. Same kind of cool story, but way freakier. It comes from China. Don't Tempt Me has one of the best versions of heaven and hell going. Penelope Cruz and Gael Garcia Bernal head the Spanish cast. The Missing Gun is about a Chinese police officer who loses his gun at his sister's wedding. This has some really cool camera work. Audition is a Japanese movie that I hate to give any clues about. Great Movies or TV Series to Recommend - Tony H - 05-27-2005 This might sound a bit cheesy, but a TV series I recently bought on DVD is The Greatest American Hero. It is full of 80's cliche, being the end of the cold war era it is fun to see how we viewed communist issues. It is also fun to see cameos by actors who went on to greater things. The show is surprisingly well written and the flying efects stand up rather well. The show is funny and has sharp dialogue and I never payed much attention at the time becuase I was a wee child in the 1st grade, but robert Culp is quite an actor. I would reccomend the first and second season on DVD, especially if you grew up on the show as I did. Ah, the memories. Great Movies or TV Series to Recommend - Jay #1 - 05-27-2005 *blinks* Where did you find it? I've been looking all over for episodes so I can watch it again. Great Movies or TV Series to Recommend - Peter - 05-27-2005 Yes, I know, Great TV sounds like an oxymoron doesn't it. But (for what it may be worth) two favourites of mine:- Edge of Darkness I don't know if it ever made it across the Atlantic but a truly great "conspiracy theory" thriller with a theme tune by Eric Clapton. And Hill Street Blues Watched it all the way from the pilot to the end. Well acted, scripted, bizarre at times (anyone remember the 60'ish Sergeant having to leave early to pick his girlfriend up from school or Belker biting people?) and, again, a great theme. Has Hill been given the DVD treatment? That would be awesome. From your side of the pond, I recently had the pleasure to watch The Thin Blue Line. I thought it was quite witty. Which one are you referring to? ....and hey..... Let's be careful out there! I assume you aren't referring to the 1988 Texas murder documentary??? Great Movies or TV Series to Recommend - Scott Miller - 05-28-2005 jimbow8 Wrote:Are you referring to the Rowan Atkinson show? I did think that was pretty interesting. I also thought Dr. Death by Errol Morris(same documentarian as TBL) was intriguing. |
