Raiders of the Lost Ark - Lisa - 05-16-2005 Raiders is my all-time favorite movie. Needless to say my kids have (been forced to) seen it. I'm glad other kids are catching it as well! We watched Raiders, The Last Crusade, Cloak and Dagger, and First Strike.I don't know if you want to tell you son this and burst his bubble about that cool scene where he shoots the swordsman but there is a bit of trivia about that scene. Harrison Ford had a bit of "disentary" while they were shooting the scene. Just before the swordsman came out Harrison really had to "go". So he shot him instead of the big old fight scene. The director and producer thought it was hilarious and decided to keep it in the shot. I agree with you. It shall always remain Star Wars. But, I also refer to the sequels as Empire and Jedi. The prequels, I call by number. Regarding Raiders. It is my favorite movie of all time. There is no greater movie hero other than Indiana Jones. Literary heroes are defined by someone else. And Star Wars gave us the greatest villain in Darth Vader which is why I am so "geeked" to see Episode III. I own it, but haven't watched it yet. I've seen about 3 seconds worth from a documentary years ago. We watched the first one again. Great@! We're trying to decide whether to put up with the Temple of Doo-Doo or skip it and go to the Last Crusade. It's worth watching just for Harrison Ford's absolutely perfect delivery of the line "Oh, shit" on the bridge! I thought TEMPLE OF DOOM was a great comedy-thriller. Quote:Raiders is still the best for my money, though. What an amazing movie. One of John Williams's best scores, too. I still get chills during the map room scene. I liked the scene where the old man is reading the inscription on the cap of the head-staff. He says that the staff is six Khadam high, and Nala comments, "About 72 inches." The old man reads the back of the cap and says, "Minus one Khadam ... " Which makes the staff five feet long. When Indy places the staff into the hole in the map room, the staff towers over his head . . . That's when I came to the realization that Indiana Jones was a Hobbit. Ken V. I like the opening sequence, but it is all downhill from there. 1) Raiders and Crusade were about notable historical (albeit religious) artifacts, Temple was about looking for some magic rocks - I just didn't care; 2) the bad guys were the Nazis (greatest bad guys in Hollywood history), Temple's bad guys were......African voodoo guys?? Hell, I don't even remember :p ; 3) I can't get past the minecar race and, even moreso, the raft 'wafting' over the waterfall. - I try! but I can't! African voodoo guys?! I guess you must not have watched that movie very closely. It took place in India, and our hero found himself in the temple of Kali . . . you remember the Temple ... of ... Kali . . . It's not my favorite either, but it's not that bad. There are some pretty good comedy scenes . . . Ken V. Raiders of the Lost Ark - jimbow8 - 05-17-2005 Ken Valentine Wrote:African voodoo guys?! My use of "African voodoo guys" was to emphasize the fact that I just didn't care, and as I said, I am pretty much unable to rewatch the movie. I have no recollection of it being in India ... wait, there was something about the Himalayas, right?!?! LOL! and the monkey brains.... but come on, those guys didn't look Indian.... to me anyway.... or how I remember them anyway. It's all a blur, like some horrible, horrible nightmare. (It's not quite Ghostbusters II bad, but it's bad) And if he was in the temple of Kali, where were the Rakoshi?!?!? I'll admit that this guy isn't as 'dark' as I remember him being, but ..... Ahh, why am I apologizing.... I don't like the movie!!!! http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0087469/IJ2_IA_231_R.jpg Raiders of the Lost Ark - Flinx - 05-17-2005 Scott Hajek Wrote:Are you also bothered by the name change from "Star Wars" to "Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope"? But what annoyed me more was the hack job done on it to add or change scenes. At least that hasn't been done to Raiders, so far. |
