Best 10 & Worst 10 movies in 2004 - sublime1983 - 01-09-2005

The only thing I had against Troy was how badly they screwed up the story line. I use to debate my history teacher (he a lib, I a cons), but we respected each other a ton. Anyways, when this movie came out, he was so excited, then he saw it and we compared it to the books. Too many problems.

Other than that, I haven't seen enough movies to make a list.

From other people's lists, what I did not like:

>Spider Man 2 - when will the only two evil characters worth a darn be on screen? Carnage and Venom.

>Kill Bill 2 - Just fight. Or do something. I was totally not in the mood for this.

Movies that were so-so:

>Dodgeball - Not funny enough to really like.
>Anchoreman - Same as above.

Movies I liked:

>LOTR - Although I thought the trilogy was pleagued with overacting, it was still entertaining.

>Jersey Girl - Love Kevin Smith. Can't wait for the full cut to come out. Will Smith's cameo was good.

>I Robot - Didn't think I'd like it, and I think that is why I liked it.

I didn't see too many movies this past year. Sad considering I live a block away from a giant theatre.

Maggers Wrote:Good comparison, Kenji. Both are written and directed by Wes Anderson, though each had a different co-writer. Angelica Houston, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray and Seymour Cassel are in each. Each film is funny and quirky, very quirky. Each film deals with odd families and their bizarre extended families as well, and each has Angelica as the matriarch.

Gee, I hadn't realized there were so many similiarities.

But THE LIFE AQUATIC has Bill Murray in the lead, and while I absolutely love Gene Hackman, I think Murray is just funnier as Steve Zissou. The whole plot is off the wall nuts, moreso than TRT.

At any rate, Kenji, if you liked THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, I think you'll like AQUATIC.

I think you just ruined this for me, I was looking forward to seeing The Life Aquatic, but I absolutely hated The Royal Tannenbaums. There comes a point where the the neurotic jumble of scenes in some of these quirky movies just isn't funny and becomes completely annoying to suffer through. This happened about three minutes into TRT.

I still may go see it, strictly because Bill Murray can make a bad movie watchable, although I didn't think this wasn't the case with Lost in Translation.

Gee, sorry to have ruined anything for you. Ah well, we all have different tastes and that's what makes the world go 'round.

I got lost in the double negatives of your last sentence. You did or did not like LOST IN TRANSLATION? That is one of my all time favorite movies.

Sorry, my attempts to be funny sometimes don't work out like I intend.

I did not like "Lost in Translation" at all. I thought the hype and accolades for the film were much too kind, and were presented to Sofia Coppola strictly on her last name, not the merits of the film. This film was nothing but a wallow in futility.

I really enjoyed "Rushmore" and "The Royal Tenenbaums" but felt that "Aquatic" didn't really go anywhere. There were a few funny moments, great look to the film and good performances, but overall it just fell flat for me.

Maybe I missed something. I dunno.

Apparently you didn't miss anything because the reviewers mostly agree with you about AQUATIC. I'm the one is seems to be standing alone on this. But I'll stick to my guns. I enjoyed it. Not the greatest film of all time, but I definitely enjoyed it.
