Got the opportunity to catch it tonight.
I wasn't a fan of the original - thought it was weak and had too many plot problems that needed addressing. But THIS show, tonight, was much better. I was skeptical at first, but by the half-hour point it was clear: this thing is very anti-state. They not only skewered paternalism in the form of socialized medicine, they nailed Americorps, idolatry of arbitrary authority, and cheesy "news" people conducting softball interviews of "leaders". They've set up a pretty good internal mythology to propel the story for a couple of seasons, and -- which is a nice "and" -- they put together an episode that actually had its own internal arc that got fulfilled at the end.
The show has a lot of potential, and I'm gonna give it a shot. Given how they've set it up, me think me kinda like!:hello:
Besides, it has that actress who plays Juliette in Lost, soooo...... Well yeah, viewing is mandatory for me. See?

I watched it and also thought it was quite well done. I'd heard it was going to have an anti-state feel but it was still kind of a shock to actually see such a viewpoint in a primetime network show.That being said, I expect this show will have a fate similar to Jericho and Firefly as it does not portray The Powers That Be in a very positive light. Ah well, I'll watch it till they take it away.
PS - I remember liking the orginal show somewhat but I think at that time I liked "Alien Nation" better.

Last nights episode was good. I'll watch it again next week. I think it has pretty good potential. The fx were pretty good too.

SPOILERS
I didn't like it. They have to slow it down a little. There was almost no build up at all, within a half hours time the V's were already exposed as the greedy reptilian scumbags that they are.
I DVR'd a couple of old episodes off of the Syfy channel. Can't believe how awful that old TV series was. Quite possibly the worst TV show I've ever seen. It rivals the West Wing for hideousness.

I read someone's theory last night that the reason for the minimal build up is because the writers and producers expect the show will be yanked off the air too soon (like Jericho and Firefly) so they wanted to get to the conflict as soon as possible. Which kinda makes sense, I guess.

Wow, they hit the panic button before it even aired, what a bunch of goofs. The thing is it could have been really, really good had they approached it right. I thought they were speeding things along because it's more or less a remake and we all know what's going to happen anyways. It really did seem like there was a hell of a lot cut out of it.
Too bad.

Too bad.
But considering they'd have no time to retool which would you rather do, have a slow build-up and risk cancellation or put the pedal to the metal and blow the doors off everyone's expectations?

I'd prefer they make something unique and new. (Yeah I know, that doesn't sale) (sigh) I just found out they're remaking "The Karate Kid" and I am personally bummed out, so I mean no offense. But good lord, we have RJ suffering Hollywood/political angst as a new story, and they think remaking 80's movies appeases the masses. Depressing.

I own the original V series two-hour finale, which is hokey fun. Michael Ironsides is always a hoot. I hope this series lasts long enough to have a hokey finale. And I think Michael Ironsides is looking for work.

P.S. For a one hour episode, they had everything and two kitchen sinks. Remember how Robert Englund played the "gentle" visitor? This new version of the show doesn't seem to have room for this role.

I think putting the lesser product onscreen increases the odds of cancellation. It looked to me like they just edited out maybe an hours worth of story so they could get to some action scenes a little quicker. They shouldn't have to sacrifice story and character development for action scenes.
