I really enjoyed it too. Very good movie, the friendships that came about over the film made me want a sequel to see more of that interaction. Most likely if it has a big opening weekend it will get one no doubt.

Good movie! But I'm an admitted Trekkie.....just not the kind that shows up in a Star Fleet uniform! I watched Star Trek reruns all the time as a kid. I could so see a couple of more movies following this one.

The movie itself was loaded with lots of special effects and centered on Kirk and Spock. You even got to see Kirk win at the Kobayashi Maroo(?sp?) test. But the best thing for me.....Kirk says "be safe". Made the whole movie even better.

One spoiler......
When Kirk finds Mr Scott on the outpost...you hear the sound of Tribbles in the background. Big Grin My all time favorite episode from the original series.
Point of interest . . .

Kobayashi is a common Japanese name -- equivalent to Smith or Jones in this country.

Maru is the Japanese word for boat or ship.

And yes, The Trouble With Tribbles was a favorite of mine as well.

It appears that the original story came from a Robert Heinlein novel entitled The Rolling Stones, and the creatures were called Martian Flat Cats. The writer of this episode -- after it was written, filmed, and aired, realized where the original idea came from, and contacted Heinlein with an apology and an offer of compensation. Heinlein told him that we all have things like that wandering around in our minds, and have forgotten where the original idea came from -- don't worry about it.

Some toy company made a Tribble, but because of licensing laws called a Dreeble. It's a furry thing that looks like the Tribble, and when you pet it, it purrs. If you pet it too hard, it squawks.

Cute!

I'm a long time Star Trek fan and I loved the new movie. It managed to modernize it, without ruining the source material.

I can't wait for a sequel!

Legion Wrote:I hate HATE HATE star trek. The Federation was a socialist government, they had no fighters ( one of the big draws to any space show) and even their small arms sucked. The Empire, hell even the Old Republic would have crushed them.

Darth Vader could crush the entire Borg collective with his mind for R2's sake!

Abbrahms will be the only reason I watch it. That and Harold from Harold and Kumar is Sulu.

Well, Steve, guess that post was a rap from your one lonely neuron bouncing off the sides of your skull. But maybe it will escape out an earhole and fly high.

TOS was the greatest sf ensemble series of all time.

STAR WARS was a comic book, and not a very good one.

Trek, at least in TOS and TNG, was the real gumbo.

Great movie. Not what I expected at all. There was some truly inspired comedy bits woven in. I'd rate this film higher than any of the other Star Trek films. I'm still a Lost fan but I think the show lost something (not sure what) while Abrahams was working on this film.

Star Trek - Dervish - 05-11-2009

I also think it's the best Trek movie, for many reasons. But I'm not sure that I can be counted as a fan of Star Trek (I like it, but consider it "junk food" for the mind).

Still, weapons suck? I recall when the Enterprise got threatened with lasers (like most tie fighters, etc, used), and Picard was reminded that regulations demanded they go to yellow alert, Picard noted that must be a very old regulation and then had Worf lower the shields by 20% to show his lack of concern over such primitive weapons.

There was once this awesome fic, IMO, of Q bringing the Enterprise and the Borg into the Star Wars universe, but it was never finished that I know of and I haven't been able to find it again.

Ah well, this one should be enjoyed because Star Fleet definitely has its jerks causing barroom brawls and the like, among other things. IOW, still believably human. :p

Still, Trek fans are outraged at how good this one is:

I'll have to wait to see that clip....blasted filters here. But I saw another on eBaum's World about a Star Wars/Star Trek goof. I'll try and find it when I get home tonight.

SCOTT: Wouldya care to rephrase that, laddie?
KLINGON: (Adopting broad accent): You're right...I didn't mean to say the ENTERPRISE should be hauling garbage...I meant to say it should be hauled away =as= garbage
(AND FOLLOWS A VERY STAGED FIGHT SCENE)
