Why? (WARNING: RJ and ADVERSARY CYCLE SPOILERS) - Dave F - 01-13-2009 Just a couple of points - can we add a spoiler alert - i know some people are deliberately saving Nightworld until the end of the RJ series Secondly I agree somewhat, the latest information is crying out for a third version of Nightworld, building in some of the new threads. I doubt it will happen. I love the way we are learning more about the first age with each book. BTW welcome aboard from another fan who was hooked in by The Keep more years ago than I care to remember Why? Yes, I agree. I was struck by the spoilers in the first post, and many here have not yet read NIGHTWORLD or the rest of the Cycle. Why? Why? (WARNING: RJ and ADVERSARY CYCLE SPOILERS) - Bacardi Jim - 01-13-2009 Sorry about the spoilers. Given how old Nightworld is and assuming that everybody here is as rabid a FPW fan as I am, it truly didn't occur to me that there was anyone here who hadn't read it yet. My apologies, and thanks for editing the thread title in my absence, Marc. Why? And I love your screenname. Too many nights have passed where in the morning I wake quoting Jack Sparrow. "Where's the rum gone?!?" I do not read many authors at all these days. Honestly most authors should never have been allowed to have books in print. The publishers only do so because what else will they print? And the more crap they print the more people will have to buy crap. Such is the sad state of affairs the book industry. I can spend hours, literally HOURS looking for a book worth a damn in any given bookstore. Aside from old favorites like Lovecraft and Heinlein who's fingers are no longer typing on this plain of existence, there are about three authors I will read. Paul is at the top of that list, and with good reason. He doesn't write anything that isn't top notch. And The Man knows how to weave a storyline so that everything seems to be falling apart but then it all falls into place making you feel stupid for not seeing it all along. So, just sit back and keep reading. Trust me. You will see. Bacardi Jim Wrote:Actually, I loved the last paragraph. But I kicked the wall repeatedly (as well as making the old familiar "jacking off" gesture) while reading the last two books. Wow. You fit in already. Welcome aboard. Why? (WARNING: RJ and ADVERSARY CYCLE SPOILERS) - webby - 01-14-2009 Welcome, Jim! Bacardi Jim Wrote:Also, I have another fear that I didn't express in my original post. It concerns the character of "P. Frank Winslow." Remember how we all fell in love with King's Dark Tower series? How we grew to adore it as a breathtaking work of scope and imagination? And then remember our dissapointment when it turned into the single most massive exercise in literary masturbation ever? Hearing you loud and clear on this one, BJ. I admit to a having a tiny, persistent fear of where the P. Frank Winslow character may be going, but I have faith that FPW will not let us down like SK did. My apologies, and thanks for editing the thread title in my absence, Marc. Jim, are you aware of the revised edition of Nightworld? The posts in this thread so far seem to give the impression that there is just one version of that book, which is not the case. If you didn't already know, FPW made some extensive revisions to the original story to accomodate the expanded RJ series and the many plot lines and characters introduced. It's an exceptionally good ending to the entire (in progress) saga. Why? (WARNING: RJ and ADVERSARY CYCLE SPOILERS) - Bacardi Jim - 01-14-2009 Ok... about Nightworld. I have only read the original version. It was six month process to obtain the entire cycle and read it, as I had to go through used bookstores/sites to get the entire AC series and (after reading The Keep in 1979 and The Tomb in 2000) I refused to read any of the rest of the series until I owned them all and could read them in order. I was aware that there was a later revision, but I was under the impression (and perhaps I am mistaken) that it was only available as one of the outrageously expensive publications from Borderland. And in By the Sword, FPW states that there will be a new "heavily revised" version of the book. (I think he mentioned this in Bloodlines too.) |
