Just bought Nightkill... - NickelobLight - 06-23-2008 Started reading it. So far so good. Unfortunately I came across a used copy of World War Z, (my brother has my old copy). No offense, FPW. Zombies, however, will always receive my full attention, and World War Z is the greatest novel the genre has to offer. Just bought Nightkill... - NickelobLight - 06-23-2008 Oh, and PS: Steven King's Cell was TERRIBLE. Dude, I know you're Steven King and all, and you are the unquestioned master of the horror novel, but come on. Telekinesis with zombie-esque creatures? Ugh. It's not yet another tired clone of the plot in Resident Evil or I Am Legend or 28 Days Later....etc etc etc? Just bought Nightkill... - GeraldRice - 06-24-2008 XiaoYu Wrote:Ooh really? Like nothing you've ever read before. It doesn't focus on a paltry few characters but gets the stories of survivors from around the world and it really paints an epic picture of humans' struggle for survival. I read Nightkill as well and that was fantastic. I read it almost as fast as I read Sibs. WWZ took me a long time to read but that was only because of where I was working at the time. Just fascinated with the whole concept of them. They're slow, no stronger than a human, dumb as a rock, yet for some reason, one of the scariest monsters I can think of. And yes, they're slow. Forget 28 Days Later, the Dawn of the Dead remake, and all of these new zombie movies. The film student in Diary of the Dead put it best. "Dead things don't move quickly!" (Diary of the Dead by the way, was a really good movie). Besides, if you think about it, if zombies ran, mankind would have absolutely no chance at survival. It is, as Gerald Rice said, the narratives of dozens of survivors of the war for mankind's survival against the zombies. The narratives are from everyone from astronauts in the International Space Station, a Chinese submarine crewman, and a character who is little more than a thinly veiled Howard Dean. It is quite possibly the greatest thing the zombie genre has EVER had to offer, be it film, literature, or even video games. There's been rumors floating around about a movie being made about it, but I hope they don't do it. They'll only ruin it. If you get the chance, you must DEFINITELY read it. The worldwide socio-economic commentary alone makes it absolutely genius. Just bought Nightkill... - XiaoYu - 07-02-2008 NickelobLight Wrote:World War Z was like nothing ever written.
