"Spartan" - Ken Valentine - 03-17-2004 jimbow8 Wrote:As for the iconized versions of Earp and Holiday. Those negative traits were brought out a little in Tombstone (in a sanitized way), but doesn't make for a good protagonist in a movie. That is more documentary material. I understand, Jim. However, my attitude is; history, warts and all. Some day, if you're interested, I'll tell you how James Butler Hicock really got the nick-name Wild Bill. Ken V. Diagonally parked in a parallel universe. "Spartan" - jimbow8 - 03-17-2004 Well, according to this book I'm reading, Buffalo Bill Cody is a vampire. ![]() And, yes, I'd like to hear how Wild Bill Hicock got his nickname whenever you feel like posting it. Though it will still be 3rd party hearsay. "Spartan" - APhew - 03-17-2004 How can you forget Kilmer in two of the best comedic performances ever: "Top Secret" and "Real Genius". "Real Genius" especially had some classic lines in it that I use today. "This? This is ice. This is what happens to water when it gets too cold. This? This is Kent. This is what happens to people when they get too sexually frustrated." and "If you think that by threatening me you can get me to do what you want... Well, that's where you're right. But - and I am only saying this because I care - there's a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing." That movie was hilarious. I liked the scene early on where he was dancing, and of course the talking pony "he's a little ho(a)rse". Then again, I thought "Airplane", the Naked Gun movies, and Hot Shots (both movies) were funny as hell. I also liked that Richard Grieco movie: "If Looks Could Kill". Well, anything with Richard Grieco is hilarious, whether they meant it to be or not. ![]() Lisa "Spartan" - Ken Valentine - 03-18-2004 APhew Wrote:How can you forget Kilmer in two of the best comedic performances ever: "Top Secret" and "Real Genius". By coincidence, I heard of Real Genius on another board, and got the DVD in the mail yesterday. There are also some really good lines in Firefly . . . Mal: "Don't hurt him, just scare him a little." Jayne: "Pain is scary." Mal: "My days of taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle." Many others. Ken V. Kilmer is excellent, the script is tight and terse, leaving lots unsaid but with enough information to allow you to connect dots and draw inferences. Perhaps Christian Bale might be a solid choice for Jack Any one see The Machinist or American Pyscho Ryan Phillipe might not be the best choice (offered in jest) but I still would much prefer Depp or Messner .... |
