I remember when I was about that age my father watched Mississippi Burning with me. We lived in a very racist area, and he wanted me to start thinking about the issue before me mates started influencing me in a negative way.

Lucky to have such a good Da, bones. But please don't think MISSISSIPPI BURNING told the whole story about the racial issue in the good old USA. The question's been here for centuries in a country that spans a continent. Things ain't so simple...

Scott,
I'm glad your son is sleeping better. When my guys were younger, the gore and splat factor played a big part into what film was the choice of the night. Must be a male thing. And that's not a put down. Hubby and the guys would watch Jaws or Alien.....just to watch me leave the room.

For me, "Posession" was the scariest movie. Isabelle Adjani's acting was scarier than creature!

That was a great movie! Not sure why so many were offended by its language. I mean what was obscene about: "Your mother chucks rocks real well"?

There are children listening, Biggles. Come on. Let's be cool.

"Your mother..."etc. You know, man. Ain't right. I got my friends' the Arvanitises' little guy Zachary with me now while his parents are off hunting for drugs in the East Village. Zach's only 8, but he picks up on things. "What's =that= mean, Uncle Mike?" "It means you better shut your fucking mouth, Zachary." "My daddy said I can kill you if you piss me off. He said I gotta learn sometime."

You see what you started here, Biggles? You proud of that, are yez?

Nah. It can't be a male thing because I love Jaws and Alien. And Aliens. And lots of other movies that fit into the "gore and splat" category. Though I will admit that I am a wuss when it comes to the torture flicks that have been so popular lately. I still watch them, but I look away... a lot. :p

Scariest movie ever: The Exorcist, hands down.

ROSEMARY'S BABY was a close second, in me own easily frightened mind.

Sorry Mike (hides face in shame). I never thought you had little Zach sitting on your lap looking at my posts. Tell little Zach that if he touches you I'll personally come over there, rip his right arm off, and beat him to death with it. Then I'll shove it down his 'troat, rip his tongue out, and grill his tongue to a char broil. I'll serve it with roasted bell peppers, portabella mushrooms, zucchini and yellow squash, capers and garlic in a pesto sauce, accompanied with a good Chianti. Tell him "It's nothing personal; it's only business".

Then ask him if he wants to come over to Uncle Biggles' house. Big Grin
