There are a series of women that appear to help Jack at times, everyone knows that, and noone truely knows with a fact their reason. It just seems that they always help Jack in the rough times. Anya was by far the best side character in the RJ books for me, I loved her minor role.
To answer your question though, I see the women like a Fairy Godmother type figure. The women in the book are all different, and all have a special motherness to them, so the Indian women and Russian are like sisters of some type if you were to compare them.
