Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - hford713 - 10-31-2006 I'm a huge Ali G fan and totally can't wait for this. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 91% (only 3 out of 33 US critics gave it a thumbs down). THAT is quite an impressive stat for a movie of this nature. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - Dave F - 10-31-2006 Got 5 stars on Empire, which is my usual guide to a good movie Going to pre order my tickets for this week-end - just need to decide what day Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - Dave F - 11-06-2006 I understand this is number 1 in US box office after the first week - end My view: NO SPOILERS Generally very funny, some jokes were a little close to the bone - but I laughed anyway Parts remind me of curb your enthusiasm or the office - just painful, but funny It gets a bit repetitive as it goes on, and is maybe a bit too long. But overall it has some wonderful one liners, as long as you are not easily offended I recommend it. Is it 5 out of 5 - proabaly not, but a very strong 4. Would welcome a more detailed discussion with spoliers - but I can't actually find anyone else who has seen it yet!!!! Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - stacyzinda123 - 11-07-2006 I cannot WAIT to see this movie!! I wanted to see it last weekend, but is isn't showing within an hour and a half of our house! It was at a very limited number of theaters by us, but since it did so well, it should be at more this weekend. I added the Ali G stuff to our netflix queue (haven't seen that either). I think it looks absolutely hilarious. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - Maggers - 11-26-2006 I saw "Borat" today and it was hilarious and raucously offensive at every opportunity. Jews (Sasha Baron Cohen is Jewish), Muslims, Pentecostal Christians, Southerners, mid-Westerners, New Yorkers, Californians, third world countries, fat people, gays, blacks, and the mentally retarded all get their turn on the rotiserie. No group is left untouched. Be clear, this is a movie that will make you cringe at nearly every scene. I spent most of it moaning, "oh no, oh no," and laughing at the same time. To be fair, not everyone was laughing. Throughout the movie, the woman in the row behind me snored softly with mouth agape. She woke up at the end saying that Borat has such a sweet quality about him, that's why he got away with everything, which is probably true. I saw a newstory about the guy in the subway scene who was pretty nasty to Borat. He's suing because he says he had no idea he was being filmed and didn't agree to it. I understand that in a public place like a subway there is no expectation of privacy, hence people can take pictures and film with impunity. We'll see what happens. I will take to my grave images from the single most horrifying and hysterical scene ever filmed of grown men wrestling. Dear god, what we saw! I might have nightmares, but the scene was insanely funny and appalling all at the same time, which pretty much sums up "Borat." Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - saynomore - 11-26-2006 I saw Borat a few weeks after seeing Jackass Number Two. JN2 did not make me laugh once. It was cruel. It was gross and without purpose. Scatology majors only. However, I had to see what the hubbub was so I saw JN2. Now I know and I've learned my lesson. Curiosity nauseated the cat. Borat was 50% JN2 and 50% hilarious satire. This is the same satire used by the 3 Stooges when they represented the hoi polloi mocking the bougeosie, which in its time was as raunchy as Borat is today. When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I couldn't wait to see the film. However, JN2 may have ruined it slightly for me. But see it for yourself and decide. AC P.S. Don't people realize: The more lawsuits, the more publicity the movie gets. Cohen is laughing all the way to the bank. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - stacyzinda123 - 11-27-2006 Borat is the funniest movies I've seen in years. It's offensive, but not in a mean way (if that's possible), as far as Borat is concerned. He gives the Americans an idea and they run with it in their own offensive directions. I think the people suing should suck it up. You shouldn't do things you'll be embarassed by, especially on camera. Anyway, this is really a hilarious movie. Unlike Maggers, I didn't see anyone not laughing when we saw the movie. There was a couple down the row from us in their 70's and they were laughing. Everyone I've talked to that saw it thought it was funny. See this movie!! Unlike Maggers, I didn't see anyone not laughing when we saw the movie. Well, in fairness to the woman, she was asleep. Otherwise, the rest of the audience was laughing and moaning at the same time, just like I was. It's an insane movie and I enjoyed it, though it did make me squirm, which was the intent. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - ccosborne3 - 03-06-2007 It was pretty good. For some reason I was expecting some kind of political statement that never showed up. Could have lived without the naked fight but it was funny. Was Pam Anderson in on this? Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - Noelie - 03-07-2007 Just watched Borat, finally. Brilliant. |
