Irish movies - Weatherford - 10-17-2006 I just listed new ones  I will say, however, that if it is FILMED in Ireland, written, directed, or starred in by someone who is Irish (including Martin Sheen who is here at the University getting a degree right now  ) it is considered "an Irish film" What I've found is that the US doesn't get the bulk of the Irish films (nor English either, for that matter) - so I've had a wonderful surprise renting some of these gems. I think I've mentioned The Most Fertile Man in All Ireland - which, if you are in the mood for it, is hysterical - or at least til it comes to a long dead spot - just FF there! There is another funny one about these punters who steal a head (in a jar) that tells them how to bet on the horses... There is also one about a racing lurcher (I have a lurcher) that is supposed to be funny, but I found myself pretty sick of the punters attitudes towards their dogs (and the one they steal)... the idea of racing it, and if it isn't fast enough, shooting it, si pretty abhorent to me. Sorry I am so bad at titles - I am really not a movie watcher particularly - but do enjoy the ocassional rental. Irish movies - Weatherford - 10-19-2006 Another excellent movie - Irish reviews say BETTER than Michael Collins is The Wind that Shakes the Barley. Won a bunch of awards, etc. I missed it in the theatres, and it's always out at the video store... |
