Ugh, Amazon is frustrating LOL - Bluesman Mike Lindner - 04-24-2006

peachynat Wrote:Cool... congrats on your upcoming anniversary. Smile

Thanks very kindly! I guess there are worse ways to make a living than by selling books. ("No, man...you don't want that one...it's lame. Check this one out--far superior." "But it costs twice as much!" "So it gotta be twice as =good=, right? Man, that's just Vulcan logic! And you're gonna find =all about= Johnny Flashback and His Brown Acid Five Or Six here. Fuckin' cool band, man! They influenced Hendrix. Trust me, man. Check it out.")

Now THERE would be a dangerous place to work!! :-)

Thanks, Jim! B&N isn't a bad outfit. I've met many of the top hombres. Why, I even once shook Len Riggio's hand!

It was almost an hour before I noticed my watch was missing...

I always liked B&N, but the one closest to where I used to live (Rockford, IL) was pretty crappy and in an awful location. So when I moved I started using Borders more. And Amazon.com online is like a juggernaut. But lately I've started noticing poor customer service at Borders, so I started going to B&N. The only problem is that Borders is bigger with a larger selection and has more "events."

I hate to say it Mike, but I'm boycotting your store. Since they revamped the first floor and now have only one measily stand with fewer than a handful of what you now call "mass market paperbacks," I refuse to shop there. I want the freedom of running in and out of the first floor with the very convenient pocketbook-sized (so named because they fit in your pocket) paperbacks readily available. The new layout on your first floor is overflowing with the more expensive "trade paperback" books. They cost easily $5 more than pocketbooks. I don't want that size. Give me my now seemingly old-fashioned pocketbooks.

I generally don't have time to schlep to the 2nd floor to see what's hot in new paperbacks, so I'm shopping elsewhere. It's a shame. The old layout of the first floor B&N at Lincoln Center was great. They took a good thing and made it bad, IMO.

How can any horror maven shop at a place that lumps horror in with the general fiction? Shame on B & N, although I do admit to receiving excellent service on the few occasions I've needed to use them.

I do find that kind of annoying, but I also find it annoying to have to look for FPW's books in 2-4 different sections (same with some other authors).
