I got Infernal (Thank you, Bluesman Mike!) - Bluesman Mike Lindner - 07-24-2005

My pleasure, Kenji. I think I had a post a long time ago, wondering if Jack's brother Tom was carved from the same hard wood as Jack, Kate, and Tom Sr. In INFERNAL, we find out. And I won't say another word! Wink

*sigh* I really missed Kate while I was reading "Infernal." Too bad Tom Jr. couldn't have been the one to get blown-up instead of Kate.

No spoiler, please! Wink I will finish the reading of Crisscross in a few days. Then I'll start reading Infernal.

2005 is year of Jack to me! Big Grin

From last week, I started reading Infernal. And, I have a question. Well, of course I'm not spoiler, and I don't need spoiler. My question is about "words".

Please tell me next words's meaning. I couldn't find out them in my dictionary.

E1A1
BQE
Gevalt
The schmucks
Zilch

Sorry for stupid question. :o

Zilch = slang for nothing

Schmuck = comes from the Yiddish for someone stupid, a jerk

BQE = initials for the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, a highway that runs from, you guessed it, Brooklyn to Queens

Oy Gevalt = Yiddish for something like "now what," or "holy cow," or "what the heck," or "yikes," usually said with a groan

I haven't read Infernal yet. "E1A1" is not clear to me.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, Maggers!!! Big Grin Yiddish is well known language in America? Everybody knows it?

By the way, you haven't read Infernal....yet? Can't you get Infernal in bookstores? Is it sold out or something else?

Yiddish is certainly well known in New York City. I'm getting to Infernal, Kenji, don't worry. Wink

Most of us know certain Yiddish words that have entered the English language, but we don't know the language itself.

The limited edition (only 500 copies were printed) is sold out, I believe. The regular hardback will not be released until November.

I have read Infernal, but I don't remember seeing "E1A1". Can you give us the whole sentence?

I don't recall it either, Brett. Maybe E-I-A-I-O? :p

In page 15, Jack met his dad at airport, then Jack said to dad, "What'd you do, come in on E1A1?".
