Meeting Kojima-san - Bastard - 05-24-2004

Hey, I'm looking forward to the game. Kojima Hideo has reinstated himself as one of my favorite video game directors/creators ever since he brought Solid Snake out of NES world and onto Sony's Playstation and PS2. Plus, he's great with the plot twists and conspiracy theory bent. It's going to be tough waiting for this installment. I mean, who of us hasn't fantasized about what we'd do in Jack's shoes?

Tentacled monstrocity: "Hey, Kolabati, you should give Glaeken your necklace in order to help destroy us....blah, blah, blah......" :p Wink

Y'see, Jimbow, your collection might lack the unedited samizdat edition I glory in. It seems the tentacled monstrosity is actually a pretty nice guy once you get to know him. Quick with a joke, or to light up your smoke, and always ready to buy the bar a beer. Sometimes you just gotta make the effort to understand these fellas. :p

That'll teach me to judge a book by its cover. I guess all tentacled monstrosites are not "bad guys" - just misunderstood.

If you wonder that, then you probably like the additions to Stephen King's The Stand which includes the armed forces enforcing martial law.......with "extreme prejudice."

C'mon, Jimbow. You know what I meant. NIGHTWORLD is a wonderful book, but the DEE-fense is much underplayed. It ain't fer nuthin' homo sapiens is the dominant species on Earth. When human beings are attacked--from whatever source--we fight back. Oh yes indeed, we fight back. Better than any others. Ask the saber-toothed tigers about that. Oh, sorry--you can't. None left. For example--on the high seas, don't you think F-14's and F-18's from American carriers would be taking down the huge winged horrors whenever they came within range? Don't you agree that across the globe the order of the day would be, "Shoot on sight!"?

I was being serious. Did you like the additions to the Stand/did you read the original before the additions. I thought they were interesting but for the most part irrelevant to the plot in much the same way that they would be to Nightworld. It would be interesting but would just be a sidetrack to what is important to the book. I DO think it would make for interesting fan fiction or possibly the Repairman Jack video game as fpw mentioned.

Yes, I think that Tomcats and Hornets (?) ripping the flying bugs to pieces would be pretty cool, just not in the context of the RJ books.

Thats just my opinion, I wasn't intending to offend........except for the Iraqi War crack. Big Grin Wink

P.S. Also keep in mind the sheer panic that would be caused by a giant pit opening in the Sheep Meadow with demons from Hell pouring forth. Even the military might be a little taken aback by that.

Marines and other elite forces aren't taken aback by anything. It would just be like DOOM in real life. The bravery of fighting men (and now women) who believe in their cause is limitless. When faced with pure evil like the forces of the Otherness, and when defending their loved ones from that evil, the military forces of every country would fight to the death, as would the militia in those countries where one existed. Just my opinion.

No offense taken, Jimbow. Never worry about that. But I think you're underestimating Noo Yawkers. We didn't run screaming for the hills after The Attack. We dealt. Led by Mayor Rudy Guiliani, we screwed our courage to the sticking place and we dealt. I like to think, given the NIGHTWORLD scenario, I'd load my rifle, put my best leather jacket on, kiss Susan goodbye, and head to Central Park to help defend my city. If you can't do that...what kinda guy are you?

Well put, Biggles. Damn good and damn right.

Most people are like that. As long as they have someone to tell them what to do, they'll do it. But without a "leader," most people aren't even a mob, (a mob has a leader) they are a herd.

You would, I would, many others on this board would also, but you'd probably be staggered at how many people would just stand by and watch.

In a Nightworld situation, I'd prefer a shotgun. Hell, I'd probably load up all eleven of them. Shoot one dry, and pick up the next.

If you're going to go down, go down swinging.
