Taweret - the statue on the island was guard to where the deceased entered the land of the dead and was known as the goddess who guided the dead into afterlife

and that is where Jacob lives ...
And they didnt let us see the front of the statue until yesterday

Eyeliner goes along the line of the eye at the base of the lashes...he has perfect black lines out lining his eyes...top and bottom. It must be eyeliner...or maybe he's one of those nuts that has their eyeliner tattooed on.

Many celebrity males use eyeliner. Why? Is there a practical purpose, or is it just fashion?

Nestor Carbonell does not wear eye make-up.

It's almost surreal that big questions are getting answered. 'Whoa, they actually talked about what the island is instead of speaking in vague terms or cutting away for the duration of the conversation.' I will be very sad in two months when it's all over.

Nestor Carbonell doesn't wear eye make up. He just has really really really thick eyelashes. He showed that in an extra bit in the 5th season disc set.

Richard isn't as old as we thought he was, from the 1860's era.
I always thought Richard dated back to the Black Rock.

Quote:The statue guarding? the island was broken by the Black Rock during a storm. I find that improbable. Rock/stone toppled and broken by a wooden ship.
Don't forget the force of water. With huge waves behind it, the ship + the force of the water could shatter the statue. Think tsunami.

It's still fun to call him "Guyliner", though. Wink

*sigh* I would kill for such thick, beautiful, natural lashes.

Absolutely that wall of water was the real destructive force, not the wooden ship riding the wave. But I admit it took me a little while to get to that conclusion. At first I was like Brian and thought no way that wooden ship demolished that statue! Then I thought some more and realized, oh, yeah, a wave that big would be able to do some damage.

I ran across these images on a lost forum that should help give a little perspective...

It was a great episode. Very moving. Not to mention informative, giving us answers to a number of big, lingering questions.

But I do not think we have yet learned exactly what the island is.

If you're referring to Richard saying it is Hell, well, that may be his belief even 140 years after arriving, but where did he get that idea in the first place?

He probably started to think he was in Hell while he was the last survivor of the Black Rock, chained to the hull, slowly dying of starvation and thirst. Then along comes MIB who tells Richard exactly what he wanted to hear.. yep, you're dead, you're in Hell, and I'll let you out - if you kill the Devil.

Is the island Hell? No. Consider the source of that "explanation". As well as the fact that the writers/producers have said that is not the case.

And if you meant that the island is the cork holding back evil, well, that's still speaking metaphorically, isn't it? I guess it could have been meant literally, but I'd have a hard time accepting that. Especially since I don't see Jacob as much of a straight-talker most of the time.

Lost-The Final Season(spoilers most likely to follow) - Alvin Fox - 03-25-2010

I meant cork. When Alpert said 'Hell', I yelled at my tv, 'No. It's not supposed to be Hell or Purgatory.'

I see the Island now as the one thing that's preventing Hell on earth. Whether it's a prison or a cork plugging the gates of Hell. (Suddenly though of a different hole and chew wasps.) In the flash sideways, with the island sunk, is it Hell on Earth everywhere else? Or is everyone living out what they wanted as a way of the Man in Black saying, 'Thank you for freeing me.'?

To add to my list from before, Sawyer isn't as tortured over his parents death. He's still looking for Anthony Cooper. Miles has a relationship with his dad. And Charlotte... got to bone Sawyer? (That was another angry instance, 'You're supposed to be with Daniel!')
