The Tomb was my first. My man lent it to me at the begining of our relationship 3 or so years ago. It's great because now every valentines day/birthday/christmas, I buy him hardcover editions so we can spread the paperback ones through our group of friends and convert them all to FPW addicts. It's great, my boss is always txting me trying to figure out a connection or a charater plot or wtf is going on in the book he's reading.

Like many of you, The Tomb was my first FPW read. I was in the hospital with Shingles when I was 20 years old. This was back in circa 1987. A friend of the family brought me an acoustic guitar and that amazing book. I immediately recognized FPW's name, because I had seen a crappy movie circa 1984, that was loosely based on (and named after) his book, The Keep.

To this day, I can still remember how awesome I thought that Repairman Jack was. Since then, I have read pretty much anything and everything that Paul has written.

Good times!

It was kind of a strange trip to me being a FPW fan. My first FPW book was Reborn although I don't remember where or when I got it. Especially years ago, my MO was to enter a used bookstore when I was almost out of books and buy an armload of horror paperbacks based in most cases on nothing more than the synopsis on the back and a creepy horror-looking cover, and Reborn was a book that I acquired in this manner.

I read it and really liked it - enough to keep it instead of reselling it to another used bookstore or on ebay. A few years later I rented the Midnight Mass movie and unlike almost everyone else I have ever encountered in real life or on the internet, I enjoyed it. Months later still I saw a Midnight Mass paperback in a grocery store, bought it, and loved it.

It wasn't until much later that I was going through my stacks and made the connection that Reborn had also been written by FPW.

Now I've got a whole stack of his books, both read and unread and I am thoroughly enjoying working my way through them.

That is an unusual way to discover him for sure but there are no coincidences so you found him for a reason. Welcome to the fray.

The Keep was the first book I had read by FPW, and what a great book to start with.

Now there are just a few books of his that I haven't read :
Virgin, The Tery, Dydeetown World, Mirage, Masque, and Artifact.

Like you The Keep was the first one for me. I saw the crappy movie and a write up on it in Fangoria and was so intrigued with the concept I hunted up the book. Loved and have never looked back.

I am down to Virgin and Artifact myself.

Oh and btw Anemone, welcome to the board!

The Keep was my first, I used to work in a 2nd hand bookshop with a great horror section, I'd seen the movie at some point and noticed the Novel, so I bought it, it was the hardcover, I still have it.

I loved it even then, before it was part of a bigger story.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum. My first introduction to FPW was 1991 Carlisle to Settle. 'Reprisal'. Brings back nice memories of finishing a great week travelling around the Lake District by train, before privatisation made it a chore!

My mom read it when I was still in elementary school and recommended it highly, but it wasn't until years later when I read it. A very good friend of mine recommended the series (just Adversary cycle at the time) so I credit him with my love (addiction) of FPW's work.

First FPW book was Midnight Mass. Picked it up at Grocery Store Check out in mid-2000's I think. Midnight Mass was amazing and different than anything I had ever read. I loved Father Joe, Carol, Zev. I have probably read it once a year since I bought it.
