Bluesman Mike Lindner Wrote:I think its a Scots dialect term meaning "brave" not just in the sense of "courageous," but "excellent" or "well done." That's how I use it anyway. Scotsmen can sue me care of the board. Wink

"Braw" doesn't have a true definition, its more of a colloquillism meaning large and strong.

Ya'll girls here really need to read more of Karen Marie Moning's books..she makes frequent reference to the Braw N Bonny Beefcake Farm. (where of course, her heroines fantasize that incredible hunk of maleness must have been hatched since men like that simply don't exist!!!) Does this explain it for ya?

Whatever its origin, in today's parlance 'braw' simply means 'great', 'excellent' or just better than 'guid' (good).
Fans of the scots actor Robert Carlyle have a website: http://robertcarlylesite.tripod.com/uncobraw/ where the term is explained.

I found another connection, I think, that I don't recall having been mentioned, but that's not so surprising because I can't recall much. Anyway at the end of "Faces", Howard ends up in the Monroe Neuropsychiatric Institute which was formerly the Monroe Slaughterhouse which is where I'm guessing Jonah plied his grisly trade awaiting the arrival of The One.

Excellent catch! I just read Faces not too long ago and didn't make that connection at all, but I'm sure you must be right.
Cool

I found out one!

Now I'm reading "Healer", and in the book, I read those lines. So far, Dalt and his partner had served as an engineer on a peristellar freighter, a prospector on Tandem, a chispen fisher on Gelc, and so on,......

"A chispen fisher on Gelc" was related to "To Fill The Sea And Air".
