I saw the trailer for the remake of "The Longest Yard," which stars Adam Sandler. The trailer looked good, the movie looks interesting, and includes Burt Reynolds whose role Adam Sandler is reprising. I liked what I saw of Sandler in the trailer.
If Sandler can get in the kind of physical shape that Jack needs to be in, he could just be a good Jack.

Lets see....The Amatyville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho, The longest Yard, Starsky and Hutch, Charlies Angles, Dawn of the Dead, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, (ok this one with Tim Burton directing and Johnny Depp starring seems ok...)
What do they all show us? That Hollywood is mostly devoid of any talent or anything new to bring us....even the movies that aren't remakes are usually rehashes of used ideas.....sigh....think I will go right a Blues song now

Today's screenwriters are full of fresh ideas, more spec scripts are being sent to LaLa Land than ever before, and the numbers keep increasing every year. The problem is with the studios who want a head start in the marketing department before they dedicate 8 figures to the thing. Hey, it worked before, so why not do it again!
Gotta agree with you about remakes in general, but don't blame the writers.

Here, here, Dave, I agree 100%.
I know several screenwriters who have struggled for decades trying to get their wholly original and terrific ideas (at least in my opinion) reviewed and accepted by the Hollywood machine. They've been rebuffed for precisely the reason you said; the big business of Hollywood wants to go with what has succeeded before and the public be damned. They (Hollywood businessmen) seem to think we don't want new and exciting and interesting ideas on the screen.
So, yes, don't blame the writers. They are out there in spades with their trusty little pens flying over the paper at warp speed, or, I guess I should say, with their dextrous digits flying over the keyboard at warp speed.

Point well mad Dave. Guess I could have been more specific when I stated that Hollywood is devoid of talent...should have said the people in Hollywood who are making the decisions for the most part are devoid of talent and vision.

Forgive me if this guy has been mentioned already but I just saw Blade: Trinity the other night and the guy that played King made a lot of bells and whistles go off. I believe his name is Ryan Reynolds. I sat there watching this guy's intensity and sense of humor and thought..wow..it's Jack! Can be ordinary looking, well built, and the personality seems to match. Anyone else see this? He's also in the new Amityville movie as well. Thanks!

Blade;Trinity is not released in Japan yet. So I can't say anything yet. Release is May 7. I'll check him in my own eyes.
BTW, how about Cole Hauser? I think he is perfect for Jack. What do you think?

You know, you're on to something here. I absolutely adore Ryan Reynolds, who came into his own on the silly TV show "A Guy, A Girl and a Pizza Shop." At least I think that was the name.
I think he's a terrific actor, and he is also VERY funny. One of my favorite comedies of the '90's is "Dick," a crazed version of the Nixon presidency, seen from the vantage point of 2 teen aged girls. I began to notice Reynolds after seeing "Dick." He has a very small role, but I laugh out loud at his subtle portrayal of a clueless college kid every time I see the movie. The wonderful Sam Hedaya plays Nixon, and he's brilliant.
I think Ryan Reynolds could be a fine RJ.

....and Dick is a quite funny movie.
