Who's Your Cast? - Scott Miller - 08-13-2008

I was going to say something about that, but you obviously discovered it on your own. I think Chambers looks pretty good in that picture; I never would have considered him. As for Knoxville, a big maybe. I think he is a decent actor(loved Grand Theft Parsons), but not sure if he can get nasty enough.

And welcome.

You don't need to do apologies, tjcw316. Welcome to the board.Smile

"Paparazzi" was cool.

tjcw316 Wrote:Ryan Reynolds by far would be a good pick. I think stearing clear of Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, and Ed Norton as they have had several action movies. RJ is a new character on the silver screen, and he should be someone with some notoriety, but with no links to any major action character. So here are a few for consideration:

Hey, tjcw! Welcome; you'll like it here.

You had me with "Ryan Reynolds"...and then we went over the f'n brink!

Justin Chambers is, in my opinion, a great choice for Jack if filming started 4 years ago. Check his more recent photos on IMBD...he looks older that I do and I've got a couple of years on him.

As FPW said in his movie blog about a late 20s actor interested in playing Jack (in 2005)..."Some of you might be concerned about a mid-late twenties actor playing Jack, who's in his mid thirties."

...so late 30s (would be 40 by the time that filming starts) is too old for the Jack in my books.

In the nicest possible way, I also disagree with your 2nd and 3rd offerings. Sorry.

My favourite choice for Jack would be Thomas Jane, but he, too, is in his late 30s (a year older than Chambers)...so I'm sticking with Ryan Reynolds and hoping he can play it more serious than most of his other roles to date.

Another pick for Jack, but he would have to grow some hair and he would be working on his early 40's would be Jason Statham. He can pull off an american role even though he is English, but his hair and age would be limiting factors. I was disappointed when they did not pick him for the new Bond...

That is another subject all together (The bastardizing of the new Bond movies)...

You think that the Bond franchise has been bastardized, and yet you would have preferred they cast Jason Statham as Bond?

People were moaning when they cast a fair-haired Bond. Imagine the fans' reaction if they cast this thug as Bond. Confusedkep:

Statham is an amazing actor in my opinion. Playing a role as a thug, a carrier, or an FBI agent, he still has proven his ability to play any role. He is english, and he is obviously a good actor if he puts out at least 2 to 3 movies a year.

The bastardizing of the Bond Franchise was in reference to the new format of the movie not about the new Bond actor. The main highlight of most bond movies were built around his special gadgets, and the new format has gone away from that. Bond was not marketed as a bad ass, but more of a top notch agent that utilized his equipment to accomplish his assigned mission.

Stathams character has always been built around some form of secrecy, and if he was younger, and with more hair he would make an awesome RJ. Just being English and his past movies built around being an agent or "Thug", he would bring alot more to the Bond character. But this is just my opinion.

He's certainly a popular actor, I dunno if that necessarily makes him a good actor? You say that he has proven his ability to play any role . . . ? I would say he always plays the same character!

The new format definitely has moved away from the old, becasue the old was worn out. As soon as Bond had an invisible car we all knew he couldnt last in his present condition for much longer Big Grin I think Casino Royale is much more like the older Bond movies - grounded a bit more in reality but still filled with cars, women and action.

Sorry bones, I meant that as an action star, he has the ability to play the hero, villian, thug, FBI agent, and so forth. I for one could not see him in a comedy, due to his action star stereotype.

When I select a movie to watch, I already have an idea if it is a big production style, or a B quality of movie. I like both. Transformers was an awesome movie, that was designed to create realism to the Sci-Fi fantasy of the Transformer storyline. Something that is very hard to do when it comes to taking a cartoon or comic and making it into a movie.

I did not like Dare Devil. Ghost Rider was okay, but did not meet my expectations. Iron Man was great. The new format for Batman has been phenomenal. The Hulk was great with Ed Norton, but I am not sure how well the CGI's will fit with the Iron Man movie format. Did not like the Fantastic Four movies(never been a big F4 fan). Spiderman was good and word on the new "Venom" is that it will be a darker movie, kinda like the latest Batman movie. Sorry got off on a tangent...lol

The Bond movies had gone overboard with the past format and that is due to impart of lack of creativity (my opinion). They made the past couple of Bond movies into the typical sequels that people go to see because of the franchise. I did enjoy Casino Royale, but without all the gadgets that the Bond character was always built around, it puts him in the same category of another Max Payne, Jason Bourne type hero. The gadgets should be more realistic and along with the current technology. Like an ipod that is an actual magnetic detonation device, that will have a countdown on the screen. Stuff like that. Bond is just another secret agent without the gadgets.

Sorry if I come off very analytical at times, but I am a big movie buff. When I am not watching a movie I am reading. I do not like the boob tube that much, only a few shows really interest me anymore. I hope this clearifies a little more of my thought process.Big Grin

Question: did you see the Director's Cut of Daredevil or just the theatrical release?

Rarely have I seen a movie so completely butchered in the editing room as the theatrical cut of Daredevil...the Director's Cut is an entirely different movie. It actually has a story to it. I didn't hate Daredevil in the theatre but the director's cut was far and away the better movie...(no love scene between Matt and Elektra, just for starters).

New Bond=good, old Bond=snore

Jason Statham=good, Jason Statham as Bond=snore, Jason Statham as Jack=pass the coolaid, I'm done.

Let's get this part over with: Knoxville, hell no. Statham, his forehead would try to steal the movie. Cole, looks too old for the part already [not aging well]. Jason Chambers also not aging well.

I'm sticking with picks of Reynolds and Donovan, cause while they will be older when filming starts both of them are going on that downward slide to viagaraville gracefully and still looking delicious.
