webby Wrote:This is why I love playing Trivial Pursuit. When Burnt Offerings was first mentioned in this thread I thought... 1970s... Karen Black.

And if I've even seen the movie, it would have been on a "late show" or "late late show" decades ago. I put it in my Netflix queue though so I can see it (again?) soon.

I believe this is the movie they filmed on the set of Dark Shadows ... the old 70's vampire daytime soap opera ...

You may be right. Both were made by Dan Curtis.

Scott Miller Wrote:Going foreign with three movies: The Eye, the original from Hong Kong, Cronos from Mexico and Audition from Japan.

And while it isn't scary, Evil Dead II must get at least a mention in a thread about great horror movies.

Audition is seriously messed up. We have it on DVD. Well worth watching. My husband loves all the Evil Dead movies. I find them ok, but can't get in to them.

Cube is very good. The sequel, not so much. But the original is definitely worth checking out.

If anyone is into people doing bad things to other people, Human Centipede is on Netflix instant. If you have any doubts about watching it from the title, DON'T. I unfortunately cannot unsee this movie. Very disturbing and it comes the closest of any film i've seen to making me actually want to throw up.

I too love both those movies by Marshall and had high hopes for him but he has put out nothing but garbage since.

Prince of Darkness rocks, of course pretty much anything JC is good, especially if it was in the 80s.

Some of those 70s and 80s Italian horror movies are great, Demons, Argento's 3 mothers trilogy, even though the last one is relatively new, Phenomena.

Stuart Gordon makes a pretty good film as well, Dolls, Reanimator, From Beyond, good stuff.

Fav zombie movie, is a toss up between the 90s remake of Night, which was done by Savini the special effects guy for Dawn and Day, and the original Dawn is great. Take Romero out of the zombie world though and he isn't too great, his last couple of zombie entries weren't that great either.

Love the Italian Horror maestros, as well as Gordon (even up to Dagon).

I know it's a love/hate thing for old time zombie film fans, but I really enjoyed Snyder's remake of Dawn. I love the fact that, depending on my mood, I have two different films with the same basic premise and completely different approaches to the subject matter to scratch that zombie watching itch. I know Romero got a lot of flack for his more recent entries, but I've enjoyed them as well. He's still kept his social commentary going in a lot of new ways.

I laughed, sorry.

Come on. it wasn't THAT bad!

I haven't had time to read through this thread but, for me, I've seen horror films that disgusted me, I've seen horror films that made me laugh they were so stupid, I've seen horror films that made me think but I honestly can only remember one that frightened me.

The original The Haunting, can't remember the year but it starred Claire Bloom. Much scarier then the modern slasher films!

RootsReggae Wrote:Peter Straub's Ghost Story is the scariest book I ever read. Beware that the movie does it no justice, and is not scary. The book is excellent though.

Ghost Story is one of my favourite films, but you're right it's not scary. Still a good film though:-

"I will take you places you have never been. I will show you things you have never seen."

Oh, and when I first saw it I fell in love with "The Ghost" Smile
