Post-Harbingers Thoughts (SPOILERS) - phantom21 - 09-25-2006

Blake Wrote:MAJOR SPOILER WARNING!!!

Because there's little reason for Jack to have an "official" identity now that Emma is gone.

Blake

Yeah. Really forgot about that. And since he's promised to be the Heir, Jack just needs to be Jack.

OK,I understand mentally why the baby had to die but I can not except it emotionally. If Jack is the Heir why would his daughter not be the next Heir? And now he can no longer be with Gia and Vickey because he will always be a threat to them. Someone said that Emma had to die because now Jack does not have to become legal. Thats not what the lady with the dog said. She said the baby dies because the Ally had to show Jack who was boss. Now Jack is just about the Allys slave. I'm not sure I like the way this is going.

The "Heir" thing isn't a family legacy like a kingdom. If it was, Jack's dad would have been the Heir before Jack - and he wasn't. So Emma would not necessarily become the next Heir just because Jack was her father.

Jack can still be with Gia and Vicky. As long as he loves them the way he does, whether they are together or not, they can be used as a threat by Jack's enemies. Might as well be together in that case, right? Wink

Concerning Jack as slave of the Ally, I quote Keith the Elder who said it best earlier in this thread:
Jack is not bound to be the Ally's "butt boy". As the lady said, there was no deal, just Jack's threat. Jack can still off hisself, but he won't because that would leave G & V to face the upcoming "Nightworld:" alone. And the Ally knows that.
It's a stalemate imho. As long as he has a reason to live (G & V) Jack can't sit back and let things fall apart if there's anything he can do to prevent it - that's just the way Jack is. The Ally knows that as well (which is why Jack is the Heir). Stalemate.

Ah but that does cause a moment for pause here. This is an excellent idea! Jack COULD assume the identity of Gia's husband. Whether it's necessary or not is not an issue I think. If Gia wants Jack to become "legal", I think Jack would do it in this instance. It's like it was tailor made for him.

Except Jack would always need to watch out for anyone who knew Gia's husband and would recognize that Jack isn't him (like the diplomatic community). There could also be fingerprint and photgraphic records that wouldn't match. Assuming the identity of someone less known in the US would be a safer bet.

Interesting idea, though!

Post-Harbingers Thoughts (SPOILERS) - Ken Valentine - 10-02-2006

luthie2 Wrote:I have to admit, I almost regretted having read Nightworld while reading Harbingers, because I knew too much. I knew who would be in Nightworld and who wouldn't. At least I thought I knew - all bets may be off now with the Nightworld re-write!! Smile

All bets are off. You have a few pleasent surprises coming your way.

WOW!

Just finished Nigthworld.

This was a fantastic series, and of course, I see how they all fit together, event the stand alone books.

I also see where Wilson has to rewrite the AC to include the RJ books after the Tomb.

I think Wilson will have Jack be the new heir, meaning Glaeken will fall in battle somewhere down the line, unless he dies in the rewritten AC.

I can see the Ally using Jack to fight other adversaries from the Otherness, taking on the mantle of Glaeken later.

I have to say Wilson is a great writer and look forward to reading many of his other books.

WOW!

CAUTION LOTS OF SPOILER TYPE COMMENTS BELOW!!!

1) I noticed the WOW chip reference, but becuase I'm not sure about when the switch over happened it could have been a case of slipping in between the cracks.

2) The idea of a hacker breaking 128 bit encryption doesn't seem at all unlikely to me, despite the many people who have posted in support of it's security. It seems easy enough for me to think that if something is "industry standard" that intelligence agencies have found a way around it, or it would make their job nearly impossible. Why not a hacker as well?

3) The sunglasses bit reminded me of the movie with "Rowdy Roddy Piper" I can't remember the name of it now, but the glasses allowed him to see the aliens disguised as humans, and their propaganda, disguised as advertising.

Post-Harbingers Thoughts (SPOILERS) - tenebroust - 10-08-2006

MORE SPOILER TYPE STUFF*****

1) With Emma gone and the veritable need for Jack to remain "fluid" will preclude his assuming a real identity, I think. In fact for what has happened I think Gia may WANT him to "repair" the situation, out of sadness and revenge.

2) Thoughts on the Ally... It seems to me that FPW is talking about forces that are akin to Lovecraftian entities outside of our plane of reality when he speaks of the "cosmic battle". If that is indeed the case then the Ally is no more an Ally than the Otherness. Either one is at best indifferent to humanity. The Ally simply chooses to use humans for it's purposes whereas the Otherness relies on it's own network of operations to accomplish the same ends.

It was called "They Live!" The sunglasses let you see the subliminal messages, but gave the wearer headaches. Then, the rebels developed contact lenses. The stupidest part of the whole movie is when Piper is trying to get his black cohero to put on the sunglasses. "Put these on!" "No, I won't, you can't make me!" "Oh, yes I can!" Biff, Bop, Grunt, Smash! Smile
I thought he was called "Rockin' Rowdy Roddy Piper?"
