Raiders of the Lost Ark - Scott Miller - 05-16-2005 With the wife and daughter out of town, my son and I had a 'guys' movie weekend. We watched Raiders, The Last Crusade, Cloak and Dagger, and First Strike. Caleb is now an official Indy addict. It was a lot of fun to see him so enthused about ROTLA. What was particularly cool was the way he appreciated the humor of scenes like Indy shooting the expert swordsman and the nunchuck? coat-hanger. But my favorite to come of the whole thing was when he commented on his pizza, "Hey dad, this cheese kinda looks like Tope's face when they opened the Ark." Priceless. What a great movie. That was cool, way before Spy Kids, as a kids take on the genre. Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the BEST MOVIES EVER, IMO. (Is anyone else bothered by the official name change to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark ?) BTW, the guy's name is Toht. Never really bother me when it shifted. It was good to see it move into line with the rest of the movies and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. It's worth watching just for Harrison Ford's absolutely perfect delivery of the line "Oh, shit" on the bridge! Raiders is still the best for my money, though. What an amazing movie. One of John Williams's best scores, too. I still get chills during the map room scene. jimbow8 Wrote:Is anyone else bothered by the official name change to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark ? As long as they don't change the opening credits, I'm cool with it. It sounds weird to me, but that's probably only because I grew up with it the "normal" way. It is my least favorite of the three, but I still like it. jimbow8 Wrote:Cloak and Dagger? IS that the Dabney Coleman kids spy flick? That was cool, way before Spy Kids, as a kids take on the genre. And it still holds up pretty well, in fact it is better than the vastly overrated Spy Kids. I'm also a fan of Catch That Kid as far as kiddo espinage flicks go. jimbow8 Wrote:BTW, the guy's name is Toht. Thanks for the clarification. I like the opening sequence, but it is all downhill from there. 1) Raiders and Crusade were about notable historical (albeit religious) artifacts, Temple was about looking for some magic rocks - I just didn't care; 2) the bad guys were the Nazis (greatest bad guys in Hollywood history), Temple's bad guys were......African voodoo guys?? Hell, I don't even remember :p ; 3) I can't get past the minecar race and, even moreso, the raft 'wafting' over the waterfall. - I try! but I can't! I'm still waiting for the comprehensive DVD set. I heard that they were working on adding a ton of historical information as extras to turn the whole set into an educational tool for schools. I don't care. I just hope they don't edit out the old guy. Raiders of the Lost Ark - Marc - 05-16-2005 Scott Hajek Wrote:Speaking of Young Indy? I'm still waiting for the comprehensive DVD set. I do have a problem referring to them each by Episode X, instead of the title. For some reason it bugs the shit out of me. I will never consider it to be anything other than Star Wars. |
