I need help - Brianmack5 - 01-03-2005 I have finished all of FPW's books and need something else to read. does anyone have any other suggestions on things that are good right now? It just doesn't seem liek there are any authors out there like him that can put so many things in a book. First of all, I can't believe you've finished ALL of Paul's books, but anyway, I recommend these auhors: Lawrence Block Vince Flynn Richard Steinberg These guys are all top notch. I need help - Maggers - 01-04-2005 Wow, you go Brian. I've been reading FPW since the early '80's and I'm not finished yet. You found all his older stuff, the fabulous medical thrillers, the sci-fi series, the co-authored books, the anthologies, the AC and all of RJ? Wow! Try T. Jefferson Parker, good detective novels and wonderfully written. I need help - APhew - 01-04-2005 I'd highly reccomend these after having engorged on FPW: Jack Reacher Novels by Lee Child (starts with "Killing Floor") Elvis Cole and Joe Pike Novels by Robert Crais (starts with "The Monkey's Raincoat") Patrick McKenzie and Angela Gennaro Novels by Dennis Lehane (starts with "A Drink Before the War") Burke Novels by Andrew Vachss (starts with "Flood") Lawson Novels by Jon Merz (starts with "The Fixer") Kurtz Novels by Dan Simmons (starts with "Hard Case", plus anything else this man has written, it's all good) If you want strictly horror novels, I could give you a completely different list. I need help - law dawg - 01-04-2005 APhew Wrote:I'd highly reccomend these after having engorged on FPW: Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Fantastic irony. Rain series by Barry Eisler. Hitman action/mystery thriller. Spenser series by Robert Parker. Action/mystery. Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Sci/fi fantsay (in LOR style). and Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Defies easy description, much like FPW. I need help - All Thumbs - 01-04-2005 That all depends on what genre you're looking for. I read mostly Fantasy so I could recommend a ton and a half of Novels/Authors (but they're almost all Trilogies or even more). Here are the Best of the Best IMHO: John Marco - "The Jackal of Nar" (Tyrants and Kings Book 1) George R. R. Martin - "A Game of Thrones" (A Song of Ice and Fire - Book 1) David B. Coe - "Rules of Ascension" (Winds of the Forelands - Book 1) Terry Goodkind - "Wizards First Rule" (Sword of Truth - Book 1) Steven Brust - "Jhereg" (Vlad Taltos - Book 1) David Gemmell - "Legend" (Drenai Tales - Book 1) Glen Cook - "The Black Company" (Black Company - Book 1) Raymond Feist - "Magician: Apprentice" (Riftwar - Book 1) Other Fiction I would recommend: Jim Butcher - "Storm Front" (Dresden Files - Book 1) Eric Van Lustbader - "The Ring of Five Dragons" (The Pearl - Book 1) Matthew BJ Delaney - "Jinn" (his only novel) Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child - "The Relic" (Agent Pendergast - Book 1). I enjoy anything they write! James Rollins - (various stand-alone novels) Steve Alten - "Domain" or "Meg" Kevin J. Anderson - "Hidden Empire" (Saga of Seven Suns - Book 1) I need help - Noelie - 01-04-2005 I highly recommend the Pendergast books by Preston and Child. I'm almost as addicted to Pendergast as I am to Jack. I need help - Brianmack5 - 01-06-2005 Noelie Wrote:I highly recommend the Pendergast books by Preston and Child. I have not read nightworld because I want to wait and see if it is going to be revised. I need help - the Oracle - 01-06-2005 Both Dirk Gently stories (by: Douglas Adams) are pretty kick ass! -Rip |
